Default Drivetrain wobble at certain speeds - causes?

I've had this problem for about 8 months now. It started gently as a wobble through the steering - felt as if one of the wheels was out of balance. Gradually got worse and clearly became more pronounced when accelerating, no wobble when foot off the gas. Also started noticing a loudish click click click noise when accelerating from low speeds or going slowly round corners - sounds as if something is not turning properly in its housing, and seems to be coming from the offside front wheel.

Had all the wheels checked, balanced, rotated, computerised alignment - no difference. Vx dealer a waste of space, said it was radiator mountings but admitted not having taken the car for a test. Suggested could be drive shaft centre bearing. Clutch needed replacing also so went to local mechanic who fitted a new clutch kit and a salvage nearside wheel bearing hub assembly. Still not cured. Fitted an offside front hub assembly, front outer CV joint, brand new idle shaft bearing and casing. Whilst the wobble is not as pronounced now, it's still there, particuarly when accelerating 50-60mph. Local mechanic thinks it "might be something to do with the gearbox then", probably as thats the only thing left to replace!

It'll have to go into Vx again, but wondered if anyone had any thoughts?

    Its a 2.2 SRi 2002 52 plate with 83k.

cheap first idea.. try getting the whhels balanced again...VX wheels are an absolute pain to get balanced correctly..The operator has to use 'fine' settings and need to add minimal amounts of weight...so if after the first addition of weight to the wheels it still won't balance, he shouldn't just add more weight, he should remove whats there and start again..

I'd have gone for the CV joint as well from the clicking noise on turning etc but seeing he's even changed the kitchen sink, my first bet would still be balancing...has the tyre place checked for a buckled wheel?

Thanks GSi - definately not a wheel balance issue as I watched them do it, and wheels have been rotated several times. It feels as if a driveshaft is bent or badly aligned.

Where can I get an exploded diagram of the drivetrain so I can understand a bit more on what all the components do?
