Have a good root around here and do your research properly. With the new generation Plasma TV's with 10 000 hr lifespans all the sage advice is saying buy Plasma over 37" screen size. Also have a good read on AVforums for general advice. DO NOT just womble down to one of the sheds and get sold something.
    HTH.

Whatever you do make sure you get a five year warranty. Our last set broke after 18 months and I'm still "chatting" to the manufacturer about how thay wish to pay for the repair.

John Lewis have a five year warranty although the price of the set can be higher than elsewhere.

Panasonic are giving away a five year warranty too at the moment but only at nominated dealers. For example Comet are not part of this deal.

I bought a 37" Samsung a couple of weeks ago from Richer Sounds. Not the latest model but I got the warranty for £25.

Richer sounds are first class, got loads of stuff off them and they really know what they're talking about. Tend to be staffed by people who actually have a passion for audio/visual kit, unlike many of the bigger name chains.

I'd definitely go for plasma over LCD. Personally prefer the picture quality but each to their own. I wouldn't be tempted by any of the cheap brands, despite the specs on the box. Always found Sony (although overpriced), Panasonic, JVC etc to be vastly superior...

£1k should get you some nice kit.

Yep that's what I'm currently trying to get across to them.

Funnily enough they don't roll over and agree.
