Default Battery dead, what you suggest?

Most strangly, it worked perfectly yesterday. This morning it won't even start the engine. It has no power to make a full rotation of the shaft. I know its the battery cause I took my friends and it started right away.

How can a battery die over night?

What do you suggest, I am looking for a best buy for my Vectra.
I am thinking for a VARTA BLUE dynamic.
What battery lasted you the most?
I want to have no problems with mine for about 7-8 years.

There seems to be a bit of a battery plague at the moment - they seem to be dropping like flies - I think 7 - 8 yrs may be a bit optimistic

Any with a two or 3 year life warranty. Don't expect 7-8 years although they may last that long. Are you sure yours has the right size battery? Maybe someone has fitted a small cheap one in the past and a few dark days and frosts have killed it????
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

My original "Opel" battery lasted 8 years. But then it was dying for about an year. It was losing power day after day after day, so I knew when it was ready to go. This one it failed over night, which is strange. I took the car to the dealers, they checked the alternator and its charging the battery at 13.7-14-5 just like it should be charinging it.
By the way baterries have riched 2x prices in the past 3 months.

NOT robbery..China have cornered the market on Lead, so making the price rise astronomically..The price rise on batterys was forecast in the trade press a while back and has come to be fact...

If you get a battery to last 7-8 years thats very good life for one.. most these days fail within 4-5 years...

The reason they fail suddenly is the cells within the battery fail.. it only takes one cell to fail to break the circuit and thats it, game over...8 years for an original battery is good.. the current GM batterys eem to last about 4 years max

Well then, it must have been a short circuit.
I hope it was, else I it means I have a short circuit in my car, which would be a real disaster.

    Any suggestion with the marque?

There have been a few issues with stereo's turning themselves on, and boot light will also stay on, if you don't close the lid properly. Maybe that could have caused it?

In my experience, batteries don't die over night for no good reason.

Before you condemn the battery it would be wise to try charging it up and making sure all the lights etc are turned off and try again tomorrow.

charged the battery 5amps 10 hours, dead.
No lights, no boot lights causing damage.
The only thing I suspect is the new "second hand" electric antena I bought month ago. Can this trigger a shortcut ?

I had loads of trouble with my Vec B, battery kept dying for no apparent reason... Suspected a short circuit so for a month or so I was unplugging the battery every time i left the car! Eventually it was taken to an auto electrician who told me my new alternator was faulty...
