Default Sat Nav in the States

    Nothing like planning ahead.

I'm thinking about hiring a sat nav when I'm in the States next year. Been told its about £80 for two weeks. However, I suspect you can probably pick up a basic Tom Tom for around the same price over there (approx $160). Don't need to buy one here as I've got it fitted to my car.

    Anybody had any experiences/previous knowledge.

Look on the USA sat nav suppliers sites, see how much they are there in relation to here, if the difference is good buy one over there, bring it back, see one of the lads who has the UK maps for it on disc, load em up and eBay it for a profit if it doesn't have any more use for you, buy the best one you can afford btw, which is the Tom Tom with voice control so you don't have to scroll etc, hth.

Seems a bit steep to hire one fora fortnight, my TomTom 910 only cost me £150 & that has full europe & North America maps as standard, as above if you can get a good second hand one (or cheap new one in the US) you wouldn't lose much selling it on

Mrs O'Rilla simply read the map on our USA hols last week and we are still speaking to each other. Must be some kind of record.

Either that or I have got used to the VX satnav giving nagging instructions all the time and simply thought I was still in the Vectra................ Went wrong just as many times by me ignoring the instructions as well. Deja vu

Good idea about the cheap tomtom though - enough people going to USA that even a low end one would sell on fleabay afterwards. 910 for 150 quid looked like a brilliant buy
