    Default Air re-circ mechanism noise

When I press the air recirc button on the dash, there is a strange noise, I will describe it a d,d,d,d,d,d,d (go with me here!)

When the button is pressed again (ie to switch it off) there is a different noise that sounds like c,c,c,c,c,c,c,c

Both last for a couple of seconds with no noise afterwards. The air recirc works fine, just with these noises.

Any one got any ideas how to get at the flap that moves and check for dirt, issues ??

The light will only come on if the air recirculation can initiate. IE, if you have the fan blowing on the windscreen, the air-recirculation will not come on. Have a quick check and make sure you have it blowing out of the dash.

Well, I have removed the offending part and had a look at it.

Inside there are several plastic gears driving the actuator arm from a single DC motor.

On one of the gears a tooth has chipped off, and this is causing my woes.

Clearly this be not be repairable, so a new part is necessary.

Just for completeness of this thread.

1 what a pain it is to get it off the blower assembly (little clearance around it) - it is possible to remove this part without removing anything other than the glovebox.
    2. The writing on the side is

Are these bad boys expensive? I have the same on my Vectra, if you turn the CC knob right down you can see it spin round to a certain point and then stop but the servo clicks quite softly. When you turn the temp back up it goes back and when it stops it clicks loudly!

If it's the same part as what failed in mine (the re-circ actuator motor) it is about £60 for a new one.

Mine is still not changed, I have tied up the flap arm so it is permanently on not re-circ.

    A quick update.

Vauxhall have just replaced the servo motor under warranty (the car is a 55 plate facelift with 46K on the clock).
They are also gonna replace the electric tailgate struts under warranty as I have had a few intermittent problems with it.

Thumbs up to Platinum Vauxhall in Chippenham!
