    Vehicle : Jaguar XF 3.0D V6

    Trim : Black

    Engine : 3.0D V6

    Year : 0000

    Default Cruise control issues

I have had intermittent cruise control issues, especially when hitting the 'decrease' button - it normally turns off the CC, and hitting the 'resume' button it normally takes a few hits for it to do anything, and then it just normally sets the speed to the current speed (ie does not revert back to the previous preset speed as it should)

Note that these operations are the SAME button.....

I was playing with the stalk buttons the other day and found that if I gently pulled the 'OFF' button out more than the spring loading had, then the other button worked fine.

I suspect that the 'OFF' button is either not releasing properly and can then be 'triggered' easily when pressing other button (possibly with the movement inside the stalk end as the button is pressed in), or is dirty and only takes a minute movement / pressure to trigger it.

Just thought I would share this with you lot....

How do the button at the end of the stalk come out so I can clean the terminal contacts??

Mine's never done that either. I know it should, but it doesn't. If I press the resume button, CC kicks in at whatever speed I'm doing at the time.

That'll prob cure it if it is the stalk at fault.
Mine's out of warranty, and I'll take a look later.

I had not used the cruise control for a while, came to use it & set button wouldn't work. when I was parked up I gave the buttons some generous presses in case contacts were dirty.
    It's been ok since.

When using mine, the decrease button is the one that sets cruise control at last speed setting.
The increase button only sets it at your current speed.

Mine used to be a bit unreliable when I didn't use it much.
Now I'm on the motorway every day, it gets used almost daily and never gives a problem. I suspect the switches are a bit prone to problems, apart from the known problems with brake and clutch pedal switches.

I've had that happen in the past, usually when I'd clicked the decrease button a few times repeatedly to reduce the CC speed - the CC would disengage. Hasn't happened for ages now and yet nothing was done to it - i.e. wasn't taken to the dealer to be looked at and I didn't have a twiddle myself - so I never did know what caused it. All I can suspect/suggest is a slightly dirty contact?
