I have a 03 plate Vectra elegance DTi,
It went through a spell of EM light coming on when accelerating hard (joining motorway) or when cruising just over motorway speeds about (between 70 and 80ish), i would describe it as average sensible speeds and acceleration for motorway driving, nothing excessive. I would have to pull over turn the engine off and then restart, sure enough the EM light goes off and the car switches back out of sluggish mode.
It has not come on for a while now maybe due to my now more reserved driving manor so as not to upset the car and bring on the light, At the best of time of late the car feels like its not performing as good as could, feels heavy and slightly sluggish, so i read somewhere that changing the air filter can increase performance. I wonder if this is also what may have brought on the EM light in the first place, The car has not been diagnosticly tested yet and i'm hoping it wont need it if the light stays off and i am able to drive it as i want too, rather then reserved and cautious in fear of bringing on the light.
I guess its got the original air filter in it, I've not changed it and its had two services however not a vauxhall dealers. I got the car at 42000 and its now just over 60000 miles, any opinions from anyone would be appreciated about the need/benifits of changing the air filter, i'm sure i could do it myself.
P.S. Does anyone know what the little black peice of trunking is that's cable tied onto the air filter housing, i think its protecting a wire or wires. In order to lift the housing i guess i would just have to snip the cable ties then re-attach the trunking with new ties after having changed the filter??, (again its a 2003 Vectra Ele Dti)
Its abit long winded this message, sorry about that.
Appreciate any advice or help. Cheers Jim
