    Default Tested a VXR

Went to test drive a 7 month old Vectra VXR 280 today, just to remind me what they are like.
The last one I driven was at the VXR Track day but you cant get a feel of what the car is really like on the road.

The first thing I noticed was the lightening throttle response although this is probably due to the fact I have a diesel and not used to petrol. As soon as I pulled it off the forecourt, even driving steady you cant fail to notice the crisp, instant response, just pressing the throttle 1/2 an inch it really wants to go.
The power delivery is smooth and effortless. I had the salesman, wife and the 2 kids in the car and it still really shifted. As people have said before, its deceiving how quick the car is as the pull of power is so smooth, but it certainly does shift and gets up to high speeds very quickly.

I didn’t really put the handling to the test with all of us in it but went around a few sweeping bends fairly quick (although the salesman assured me he takes the same bends a lot quicker cos he knows the road). There’s virtually no body roll and the car stays very composed.
Also I noticed the quality of the ride even on 19s was fantastic, and TBH even better than my SRi.

Well would I trade mine in and get one? Well not that actual car I tried as it was a bit pricey at £20K and the pittance they were going to give for mine meant a massive gap.
But when they get a little cheaper then maybe.

TBH, the boy racer in me would still like a hot hatch and we looked at an Astra VXR yesterday but the wife thought it was too small so I never bothered test driving it. It’s not really practical for a family and when you are used to a larger car like the Vec you don’t really want to downsize. But I’ve read a lot of stuff on how the Astra is even more fun to drive than the Vec.. Dont think I ever convince the missus though lol....

Very nice, but you could get a 255 for £15k, plus a bit for remap. Get a sharp knife on the airbox, and you're 97% of the way to a 280...

Personal taste, but we don't want anything 'flashy' so red, silver and Adren are out...just got to see if i can live with a manual car again ( if my injury has healed enough)

You don't have to change gear if you don't want to, just keep it 4th all the time: works from 15mph up to 100mph
