Default Spider box or remap !

what would ppl's suggestions be please

got 54 plate 150 cdti with 53k on the clock

had a good read about the spider box (£375) and all looks goood as i like the plug and play aspect !

but also a well know tuning company in the dare i say it ! ! ford world ( espec live mapping on the road !) they have some great reviews.

they also offer diesel mapping for £375 in VAT ! sounds like a bargain to me,

quite a few on here have them me included and i have had no prob's to report so far, mine is a 120 though, not heard of 2 many prob's with them but a re-map is the safest bet as far as reliability goes, just make sure the company is good, like vxrpc or regal are and check your warranty if you have one, boxes are easier if the warranty is still valid as they come off before the car goes in to the dealer's

The Spider is one of the most advanced tuning boxes, with its rpm detection that adjusts the boost pressure to suit. That will be of benefit to your engine, unless you drive full throttle everywhere; probably a bit better in terms of durability than the boxes which merely increase fuel pressure all the time.

However, if you intend keeping the car for a long time - definitely get a remap. Probably won't be much (if any) quicker than a "spider" car, but it is a better solution because: -
    • with any tuning box, your traction control will not work properly
    • torque reduction on gear change will be adversely affected, bad for clutch & gearbox in the long term

Oh and not cheap, but BSR's remap (you can do it yourself with the supplied module, and return it to standard whenever you like) looks like the best remap money can buy imo.
BSR have the best reputation in engine mapping, can't beat them. If I were keeping my car, I would buy that tomorrow.

except BSR only do the remap for the petrol

the Regal IPF unit is the closest for a diesel engine, and TBH unless you really want to put your car back to standard, why bother paying the extra for the facility?

    go for the remap

The facility to return your map to standard could come in very handy if your car needs some warranty work.
