Default Veccy 120 CDTi Poor Gear change

Been having some issues with my gerabox on 06 vectra. It's been difficult to change gear since I got it - kind of like the clutch isn't pressed all the way in when you change gear (which it is). this is partic noticeable going from 1-2 and 2-3. Took it back to the dealer just after I got it but they claimed it was fine and was like this because it was a cable system. He also said I had to let the rev's drop to below 2000 before shifting (no use if you're accelerating hard).

So - my question - does this sound like the shift cables need adjusting? It feels like it's crunching a bit when changing gear and doesn't just neatly slot into the gate!

It's a real shame that they introduced such a crappy gearbox / gearchange... It lets down what is otherwise a really nice car to drive!

Agreed you get used to it - I tend to notice it more when I get back into the vectra after driving other cars

From what you have said, it's not just what these gearboixes are like. There are some threads on clutches and dual mass flywheels, have a look.

You can bet your last dollar if it gets worse down the line, you will have to pay out. Get it fixed now and do not take any bull from the dealer.

Did a search and found a few threads mentioning a clutch issue and also this http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread...ht=gear+change talking about the gear change.

I definately agree that it's worst when it's cold and doing 1st to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd. 4th, 5th and 6th all seem OK changing between them.

What defines "notchy"? When I change gear I can sometimes feel the change in that the gearstick kind of crunches (before it gets into the gate). Is the clutch replacement issue related to this?

I need to arm myself with a bit more info before heading to the dealers (again). The gearbox is def nothcy and I don't mind that - the gears click into place, it's more the fact that it cruches that worries me and I don't think it's meant to be like that.

Re letting the rev's drop below 2000rpm before changing, is that just the dealer BS'ing me?

    Thanks

I was lucky I did not have a mark11 Cavalier, now that was notchy. It was like stirring a box of spanners. The Vectra gear change is amillion miles better or should be. It should not crunch whatever the conditions and I assume you know how to drive? Get the info and take it in, play it cagy if you need to.

It certainly shouldn't be crunching. The F40 gearbox is known to have issues - not sure if they rectified anything on the facelift. A few guys on here have had their (F40) gearboxes changed. It could just need the select mechanism adjusted, that would be the first thing you should get the dealers to do. As for having to change below 2,000rpm - complete cobblers!
