    Default Need some advice....

I'm having a lot of problems at work just now, mostly down to the extremely lazy staff i'm forced to work with. They include the actual manager, who is the worst offender!

I'm not being big-headed but it's as if they are leaving all the work for me and it's getting on top of me so much i haven't been eating or sleeping properly. I've tried my best to not let it get to me but it's not helping.

I've got an appointment with the doctor tomorrow and i'm hoping they will give me a sick line, but what should i say to try and convince them that i need one?

hmmm...not sure but im now on a mild form of anti-depressant which has helped me. although i dont advise you do this!
i needed them as i had quite a few other problems too as a close member of the family died, changed jobs thinking i was going to get better pay but actually only getting half of what i was getting etc it has calmed me down a lot but the best thing i did (which i was nervous to start with) just tell the doctor everything. once it starts to flow it becomes easier and actually i look forward to my monthly appointments.
anyway got a new job lined up so hopefully i wont need to take them anymore

I've been thinking of telling them i'm feeling depressed and stressed, and having a bad case of the cold i'm not feeling well at all. I don't really think going in and start moaning about my job would help!

Edit: ditchp, i've done that and he couldn't give a toss either. His attitude was "give yourself a shake and get on with it"

It's very easy to get signed off with stress - but just be aware of the consequences if the word 'depression' get mentioned. You will probably then have to declare it on any life insurance policy you have, and you'll then officially have mental health issues.

Just go and be honest with the GP - they're mostly useless and a complete waste of time, but you work with people like that every day, don't you?

Happened to me 2 years ago m8, i was put off for 10 weeks with stress. I had to have numerous scans, ECC, CT, etc to rule out heart problems as i do have an irregular heartbeat. I was advised to change my lifestyle/job etc. As i knew it was work related i cut down my hours (work didn't like that) and eventually found a better paid, better conditions job and am as happy as Larry (whoever he is )
Tell the doc the problems and i'm sure he will diagnose stress and advise the same course of action m8 Good Luck.

P.S. I was advised to take my employers to a tribunal for "Constructive Dismissal" but that would have added to thing so didn't bother. Still think about it now i'm sorted though

Cheers for the advice leeandjude and Caterman. I've worked in loads of different branches over the past year and became wound up in all of them, but i suppose this latest one just tipped me over the edge. Looks like it's the job in general, as well as the incompetent staff!!

Suffer from stress all the time, probably not to the same degree to others, but I did speak to someone about it just to get it all off my chest. Working with incompetent people is usually what brings it on for me, trying to get a job done and lazy un-motivated people make me wonder why I put in the effort, especially as I'm expected to make sure the job gets done. My advice is as above m8, the main part being to speak to someone, that always help relieve some of the stress.

The advice I was given was when I start to feel stressed and I'm getting worked up stop and think about why I'm getting in this sort of state. Sounds a bit silly, but I always find the answer is never worth getting stressed about.

TBH I would also have a word with these ********s if they continue with their jack attitude.

    Just do what I did.

Line them up in the office and let them have it. Tell them exactly what you think, why you think it and if things don't change they can get on with it themselves. There's two ways it can go, if the manager above doesn't give a toss now, he can't give a toss if you were reported, it might shake them into action. Either way, you'll know where you stand. It worked for me, but then I'm told I can be quite persuasive...

What about the HR department? Have you reported it? Are they any use at all?

I was stuck in a situation like this for nearly two years. Do not allow a thing like a job get on top of you. I know it's easily said, but it's true. I found out the hard way.

Doctors and sick notes were mentioned to me, but I was determined I wasn't going that way, which is absolutely not a low pop at anyone who has been stuck down by depression - It's a bluddy horrible state to be in.

Tam, Good luck bud, Just try and keep your chin up. You're bigger than them.
