Default built in sat nav + aftermarket help

Hi, I'm just about to get a vectra 1.8 sri sat nav. Ideally i want to keep the sat nav but also want to build a massive system lol

I know my options are to drop the sat nav and just buy an aftermarket head unit, but what would be displayed on the screen then? and would i still be able to use the steering wheel controls?

Another option is to get something like the LC6 and convert the speaker outputs to amp pre outs, but i have no idea how this will sound.

Also want to install my ipod in there too, been looking at the dension ice link and the harmon kardon drive and play, has anyone got experience of these?

    Sorry for all the questions

    Si

I've got a Kenwood 400w amp with high level inputs as the Saab rear speakers are cack! The fronts are superb so added a set of 6x9's and 4" components to the rear and balanced them with a slight rear bias and it now sounds

Don't see any reason for you not to do something similar in the Vec or as you say, use an LC6 and add an amp then. With a decent amp you should not need the LC6 though.

I'm thinking of getting 2x15" OZ Matrix Elite Subs in the boot off my BD2 (already got) and a decent set of comps in the kicks off a dls a4 (already got)

quite a big job and neither of my amps have high level speaker inputs as far as i know

I don't really know enought about the LC6 to recommend it or not. I guess if you really want to keep the sat nav, you'll have to either go that route, or shell out for an amp with high level inputs.

hi SI you can have your sat nav and a separate head unit aswell, if you fit the head unit in the space above the ash tray,as i have . the new head unit will need it,s own power supply+speaker system etc, but you get to keep the useful sat nav! this photo shows the head unit just fitted (standard unit) use the removed plastic shelf unit to finish off centre consul, (fillers for each side of head unit)
