    Default V6 CDTI 1 Gallon/Hour

I have a V6 CDTi Euro 4 vectra which consumes fuel periodically at 1 Gallon per hour when stopped rather than the usual 0.2 or 0.3. I understand it is due to the technology required to meet the emissions standards when it burns off excess fuel, but how often should it kick in. I work about a ten minute drive from home and most times this week when I pull up it smells and sounds rough and is consuming the fuel at the high rate. The temperature gauge usually is moving off the bottom stop about 3/4 of the way to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated. However don't suggest that for such a short distance I should walk, cycle etc.

Driving short distances is going to build up more "particulates" within the system so it will regen itself more often. It builds up to over 600deg C to clean the system out and uses more fuel in the process

Also been a lot colder this week...

I am finding mine takes 9-10 miles or 10 mins drive . just to warm up to normal temperature, I'm very gentle and normally keep it below 1,750 revs, but yes first time I have used mine in the cold, and it gobbles fuel, Range this morning started at 50 miles, then 50 miles into work said I had enough fuel for another 110 miles. That was pleasing.....I could get home

The software in the ECU will force a regeneration at about 90%. Having a number of problems I noticed with motorway driving it was regening every 400 miles so quried it with my contact in Technical. VX have changed the firmware for the DPF to regen every 9% now. If it does not complete the cycle it will carry on until it has. As you only have a 10 minute drive, I'd suggest that if it does cut in, go for a little drive until it has completed. I'm not saying it will but if you keep stop/starting and it does not finish you will eventually damage the DPF and £1500ish to fix.

Very true, I've spoken to many manufactures when looking at diesel with DPF and most have had problems and failures in this systm due to people driving only short distances.

Thanks for the tips. I usually clock up around 200 miles per week 50 of which are short journeys the others are a mininum of 20 miles. Thank goodness for a full vaxhall maintenance package and warranty is all I can say.

I would suggest going out this weekend and enjoying such a nice car with a long trip somewhere. A good ol run will do it wonders, if it still acts up after that then you know you have a real problem.

best thing about above is you get an excuse to go for a long drive

    Default Poor Fuel Consumption

I need some advise from fellow V6 CDTI users, I have just bought a 2007 Signum Elite V6 CDTI Auto, I am trying to prove to the garage I bought it from that there is something wrong with the car.

Before I bought it I checked the fuel consumption on the Vauxhall website and in the Signum brochure, the fuel consumption figures were better than my 2.2dti Auto Signum, so I decided to wait until I could find a nice 3.0 instead of the 1.9.

I drive from Essex into London most days, I cover about 90 miles and 80 of that is motoways and A roads, I have been driving very carefully and have found that on the major roads the fuel computer averages out at 34mpg and when i get into the city it drops down to 26mpg. At the end of the week I am lucky to of averaged above 29mpg.

On my Old 2.2dti I drove it alot harder than my new car and I still got 36+mpg.

Can you guys back me up, and let me know your average fuel consumptions, so I can let the garage know.

The problem today is if their computer says nothing is wrong, then nothing is wrong.

It is currently in the garage because the engine managemnt light came on and so did the emission light, these were on for 2 days, but would you know it know they have got the car there are no warning lights and there are no current fault codes in the history.

thanks in advance for any replies

Yep I am same got on average of 36.2 mpg over a distance of 545 miles on trip comp at the minute, mine is a manual though and would expect your Auto to be less economical.
