    Default Bye-bye to my Vectra

Well, after two and a half year of very cheap motoring it's time for me and my SRi to part company.
I've only had to have two services (both under £130) and one is now due in a thousand miles or so (60K showing).
My second set of tyres are all but shot - and increasing the size to 225VR's seems to have increased the wear rate substantially - and worsened the ride quality.
Fuel overall has worked out around 34mpg, which isn't too bad for a 2.2 automatic with air conditioning.
Despite a new indicator stalk a couple of years ago, I still suffer the occasional ....
"can't cancel, won't cancel...oops...oh dear, I seem to be signalling the other way now".... moments.
Were I not going "up market" anyway, the indicators alone are the single reason why I'd not buy another Vauxhall.
I've met a number of "good guys" on this forum, discussed at length with many (and crossed swords with one or two!!!) over the last three years.
I've suffered eyewatering depreciation, unfortunately, in marked contrast to the other costs. Dealers seem to consider 60k a high mileage and really twist the fiscal knife. I could, no doubt, have got a bit more selling privately, but Mrs D (and I'm inclined to agree with her) doesn't want some thug coming round three weeks later and thumping me 'cos the head gasket's gone!!! At least, by part exchanging, you just give them the keys and walk away. Best not to think of the money lost!!!
New car arrives early next month, can't wait.
    Regards to all,
    Doug

Well, my Vecs gone and I'm still here.

Stay around....and what's your replacement going to be.

    Hi
You all know, that we can cancel the indicators by moving the stalk in the same direction as we are signaling, don´t you ?

There is no risk signalling the other way when you cancel like this.

The indicator stalk is superb IMO

    Default Here we go again......

I just knew that would happen!!!

Well, since I’ve only been driving for 35 years, I obviously haven’t yet had the time or experience to learn how to operate a simple switch. I must be really thick.

The indicator stalk reminds me of my computer where, to switch it off I have to press “start”.

Likewise with my Vectra - if I no longer want to signal “right” I have to remember to re-press the switch towards the “turn right” position to switch it off. Brilliant!

There’s an old cliché “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, but the numskulls at GM decided, no doubt as a drunken dare at their Christmas party, to redefine the concept of a “switch” and sneak it under the noses of gullible customers as “an improvement”.
“How cool are we” … “We’ve invented a new type of switch”….“Doubles all round….”.

Woe betide their next alcohol fuelled team-building jolly, when some wag announces:
“I know.” “Let’s operate the brakes by reapplying the accelerator”…….

Being old and feeble minded, I have obviously lost any vestige of hand/foot/brain/(mouth?) co-ordination, reinforced, no doubt, by my driving an automatic. I bought it hoping it would be “automatic”, but found it rather disappointing when I discovered that I still had to sit behind the wheel and steer………

Good God, I’ve been rambling on, sat here for twenty minutes. Any longer and I’ll have forgotten how to walk.

    “NURSE……”

    Cheers, Doug

Objective opinion from the country that brought you Dynamite…..and….the TetraPak.

Now, before the last of my brain cells dies, I’ve remembered my favourite “brilliant idea”, again created at 2AM on a GM staff booze cruise:

“Hic, Listen, Listen, ……Okay, yah, what about this….” “Whenever the car’s accidentally been left unlocked, let’s make have the number plate light up!!!!”….
“Saves the poor miscreant having to waste their energy trying random door handles” “They can just look for am illuminated plated Vauxhall screaming at them “Take me, I’m unlocked, I’m yours….”
“Tell the punters it’s “a light to help you find the boot”…”Trebles all round”.

Seriously, the VX has some worthy features and is a good quality product on the whole. Mine matured into a good car.

I have, on order, a German motorcar (have you guessed what it is yet?), for delivery in November. I checked on the demonstrator.
    Indicators required – switch on.
Indicators no longer required – switch off.
Ah……I think I might be able to manage that…

Shame they don’t do a bifocal windscreen, or an incontinence warning light.

Come on then, spill the beans.

Is it a Beemer or an Audi?.

    5 series?. A4?.

Or are you really pushing the boat out and going for an M5 or an S4?.
