Default Mobiles on planes......Please God No!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7050576.stm

is this the end of the last place on earth were you can get away from the 110 decibel numpty telling someone he's on his mobile so loud that every one else can hear.

The one thing I get on a flight is the chance to catch up on some sleep after a call out. As soon as the doors open 150 mobiles are switched on and missed call beeps radiate like a cockpit alarm. I really hope the airlines see sense and keep a lid on this one.

I can see how it could be useful on a private jet, for example - but I agree totally, it's completely antisocial and they should continue to be banned for that reason alone.

Brocks i could not open the link but i understand what it will say.

Once the plane is quite high the signal is lost anyway.
Well do you not understand these people that switch on their phones while the plane is still taxiing to the gate are the most important people in the world.
Every last one of them are just ignorant self centered turds.
But a strange thing is on most long haule flights i use the planes have phones built into every seat and i have yet to see one being used. Maybe it's the 10quid a min the stops people.

But anyway how can we stop people using their phone's as soon as the plane touches down or even in-flight.

They should have signal blockers on all planes to them.

There was one plonker who got on the 45 minutes flight to the south coast and refused to end his conversation until being threatened with "eviction". Then as soon as the plane touch down he started up again. I don't recall the exact conversation but it was social....something about playing Golf I think!

Would you be able to hear other peoples conversations on a plane..? Everytime i've flown i struggle to hear the person next to me because of the air pressure hiss and engine noise etc.. whereas normally i can hear a pin drop 50ft away..

They ask you to switch phones off in-flight because the nature of cellular phones is that they use variable power output. They send a low-level signal to register with a base station, and if they don't get a response, they up the power and try again.
If you imagine a planeful of highly sensitive, mission critical electronics being bombarded with a storm of RF from a few dozen phones, shouting at peak output, it doesn't bear thinking about.
The proposed solution is to put a low power cellular base station on the aircraft, and connect via sattelite to the phone system, so they'll still be able to hit you with huge charges!

I don't own a mobile phone and I've no plans to, but I do find it strange how some people get so wound up when other people use them in public.
Why? it's just the same as two people talking, except you can't see one of them. While driving it's a big no-no, but on public transport I don't give two hoots who uses mobiles.
I guess I'm just one of those who doesn't take any notice, and nor do I care (hearing isn't very sharp so I wouldn't hear what they were saying anyway)

edit: but yes, if the phones interfere with aircraft systems in anyway, possibly compromising safety then they should be banned without question.

You've answered you own point there., Face to face people talk and try to keep the conversation private (in most cases) its human nature. On the phone people shout.....Why I don't know but they do.....Thats why People get annoyed.

I can see it now. I'm just nodding off after a 40 hour day only to hear "Hi Bob its me, yar I'm on a plane great innit!" being broadcast at 110 dBs. Even Air traffic can hear conversation down the pilots mouthpiece 20 rows and a steel door away.

The worst part of a mobile is that ppl shout into them, and hold conversations while doing other things, I get ppl get in the car and are on the phone, I have to prompt them where they want to go, where they break for a second and say a destination only to return to the phone for the journey, I've seen ppl doing it at the checkout as well, and imo it's just plain rudeness, but then again why should that suprise me anyway.
