    Thumbs up Future meeting places.

    Hi Folks,
Could i ask all members of the West Midlands branch (and beyond) to have a good think for some ideas on our next/future meet(s). ( we don't want to leave it all up to our RO to keep finding places, lets help him out poor chap !!! ).

We'll need an interesting place to visit, not just for the blokes.
Good parking, possibly food and drink ? Toilets facilities ? + anything else to make it a nice day out for all.

Indoors for winter meets, outdoor when weather is warmer.

A recommendation i have is another 10 pin bowling meet now the weather is starting to cool.

How often should the meets be through the year ? More in the summer when its warm or evenly spread ?

Well, I'm biased, anywhere North of Birmingham suits me better!

I can vouch for several pubs around Stoke & Stafford with excellent food and ample car parking for 'ordinary' meets.

I have an outstanding (if I do say so myself!) suggestion though. Last week I went to Ariel Extreme at Trentham Gardens - its basically an assault course made from rope & wood, suspended about 30 feet up in the trees. I think this would make a superb meet - it takes a couple of hours to do the course, then there's the Monkey Forest which is quite cool, or the recently refurbished shops and gardens which should have enough to keep everyone occupied for a while.

Can't personally vouch for any food outlets there, I would expect they're probably quite pricey, but there's a couple of tried and tested pubs within a hundred yards which are good.

lol - I hear Teneriffe is quite nice this time of year

I've planned to hold a main venue in each of the counties to show a main feature. I think it helps us appreciate the West Midlands Region better.

    So far we have had...

Shopshire - RAF Cosford (excellent Venue)
Warwickshire - Heritage Motor Centre (excellent Venue)

    ... we've still got

    Herefordshire
    Staffordshire
    West Midlands
    Worcestershire
    Gloucestershire

    to go......

For WORCESTERSHIRE... I've thought about going over to the Severn Valley Railway.... as this can be really nice for a steam train ride through the Worcestershire countryside right through to Shropshire. One highlight of the trip is the crossing of the River Severn by means of the Victoria Bridge - a massive 200-foot single span, high above the water which, incidentally, features in the film 'The Thirty-nine Steps' with Robert Powell in the leading role.

    I've also looked at these..........

    Abberley & Malvern Hills Geopark

    The Transport Museum, Wythall

    and...........

    Marksman Leisure
Laser Clay Shooting - a fully automated system
Indoor Static Target Shooting - random programmable static targets
Laser Blast - a futuristic game where two to eight
Cyber-Tag - the combat game that features No Pain, No Paint and No Mess

But I recognise that these 'main' events (every 3 months) can cost money if people want to participate... so I dont mind doing more frequent 'informal' meets at pubs and resteraunts, if people want to ??

During the summer months, the agenda can be very full with car shows etc.... but I dont mind stepping up the 'main events' to every month... whatever we all feel happy to do really....

Ok, i'll pledge £2000 if you can get me somewhere hot on a long haul flight that lands in Clearwater - Florida for 2 weeks !!!!
I keep trying to do it but it usually costs me £3500+ for the 4 of us .

    And i'll meet you there

Edit: Well not actually land in Clearwater cuz the nearest airport would be Tampa ! but hey, if they can land in Clearwater........

Nowt wrong with Tenerife - or any of the other Canary Isles for that matter! Not many places you can go in February and November and still get sunburnt!

Hmmm.....I'm not much of a museum fan personally, I was dragged round it by my parents years ago, and I wouldn't want to go again.

    But Cadbury's......

lol @ Paul... its not a day out for you mate... its for everyone...

... and we would like to try and keep these events 'family' related (as its more likely to get a good turnout to the club meeting) .... also... as per my recent thread.... club demographics.....

    Single 12.71%
    Living with Partner 14.41%
    Engaged to be Married 6.78%
    Married 62.71%
Seperated... but still technically Married 0%
    Divorced 3.39%
    Widowed 0%

This tells me that 83.9 % of people are Married or with a Partner... 62.71% are Married and most have kids... So I'd like to try and keep 'main' events 'family' related. We can always have other informal meets down the pub or other single's events....
