Default Advice On Which Diesel Vectra-c

I am looking into buying a a newish vectra i am interested in the diesel as i want better fuel economy, whichever one i choose i will be putting a plug and play chip a exhaust and airfilter. I was wondering if you guys could give me the pros and the cons between the 3.0 V6 cdti and the 1.9 cdti 150bhp i am not bothered about mpg to much as either will be better than my petrol Mk4 Astra Estate i just want to know of any problems and what people believe is better for everyday driving and performance

Oooh, here comes a big 'debate' between the 1.9 and 3.0 owners! LOL I'm sure they'll be along shortly to discuss the merits of both. Both excellent engines from what I've read.

Oh, welcome to the site BTW - this being your first post!

You state that you're not too bothered about MPG figures so my suggestion to you would be to go and get the 3.0 V6 CDTi. You still get mid 30's to the gallon, with a nice smooth V6 engine.

'Abyss' has sorted the tuning out in conjunction with Diagnostix UK, and his is now over 220bhp.

If I was choosing again I would choose the V6, but i'm happy to keep these 6 pot guys on their toes with my little 4 pot 1.9.

Its a personal choice, the 1.9(150) can now be made to reach the dizzy heights of 190bhp, wheras the 3.0 can make 230 nicely. The 3.0 is a heavy lump of an engine, and is noticable in turn-in and roundabouts, the 1.9 is considerably lighter up front. But I was won over by how the engine wasnt working so hard in the 3.0, and I've not known a car to accellerate in 6th quite like it.

I can not comment about the 1.9's as I'm yet to drive either of them, although I have only heard glowing reports!

I can give my thoughts on the V6. Its a fantasic car, it really is. Even in standard form its rapid to say the least. Driven economically I have seen just over 47mpg and average as a rule around 41. It pulls like a train and overtaking slower traffic is a doddle. Much, much quicker yet just as smooth as my old 2.5 V6 petrol Vectra.

Its really every car I'ed ever need. Plenty of room with a massive boot, Handles very well with a firm but not too hard ride (SRi spec). Quicker yet just as smooth as my old 2.5 with fuel figures of a 1.6. 'Obvious' spec is not overly generous (again SRi), however, all the neat, thoughtful touches more than make up for it.

The few gripes I have are a slightly notchy gearbox (6 speed manual) and a couple of minor squeeks and rattles, namely the parcel shelf. Guess it wouldn't be a proper Vauxhall without it!

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....................I was torn between the 1.9 and the 3.0 V6 and went for the 1.9 purely on fuel economy. . After reading the specs for both, i knew i would get good performance from the 1.9 with a tuning box whilst still retaining excellent mpg. .I have no complaints having made this choice, BUT, the V6 does sound beautiful. . Plus, now the tuning box is sorted for it and knowing what mpg can be obtained, i'd go for the V6.

Another thing I love about the 3.0 is

3.0 V6 24v - 177PS, 273 lb ft torque yet group 12 insurance! Thats the same group as the old 2 litre Vec B!!

As a 1.9 owner having never driven a V6 and as mpg doesn't appear to be an issue, go for the V6. Love our 1.9 and wouldn't want to change it, but you can't beat more cubes for a fatter slug of torque.
