Default insurance is due...anyone recommend one?

Just had my renewal through for sri 1.9 cdti and its £500+ . They should be wearing a mask and riding a horse!!!! Have been on confused and can get it for £340 but with a huuuge excess and by the time you protect your no claims bonus and add legal protection it always ends up much dearer than the initial quote. So I was just wondering if anyone has had decent, cheap quotes and can recommend anyone in particular?

moneysavingexpert.co.uk on this site I think he has up to 4 Insurance checkers that will get you the best deal.... run them all and it covers almost every insurance company out there. Before you go for this make sure you create a table so you can document all quotes. Dont forget to include the price of voluntary access etc. Also ask yourself, do you really want legal protection and green card built into the policy? Can you get recovery cheaper direct from Greenflag / AA / RAC etc so do you really need it in your cover? Make sure your table has room for a quidco colum
Once you have done all this go to http://www.quidco.com/finance/life-auto/ and check to see what discounts if any they are giving (Prudential are giving £95 cashback now).
Once you have checked everything work out the overall cost of each quote and if there is quidco cashback go through them and get another quote.
Set yourself a good few hours aside for all of this and read as much small print as possible.
My renewal quote was just short of £470 with Zurich. I broke it down and payed £201 Insurance and £45 Greenflag which was cheap. But then I got £70 from my insurance and £25 Greenflag back off those prices from quidco
    So Insurance and recovery £246.00
    Quidco saving £95.00

Total cost of replacment insurance £151.00

Good luck and dont rush in with the first cheap quote

you pay the premium direct to the Insurer.... Quidco then pay you your money afterwards (this can take up to 6 months)
    About Quidco
Quidco is the web's cashback cooperative. Quidco collects referral commissions from online merchants and passes them all on to our members. The Quidco cooperative is a cashback revolution where members keep their full earnings in exchange for giving Quidco £5 out of their earnings once a year.

The Quidco model works for both the merchant and you. It enables the merchant to reach a large base of motivated savvy buyers and it enables you to get back big savings by buying from merchants who participate in the model.

Before buying anything online I always check to see if the site gets a discount from Quidco. My total cashback stands over £200 but some of the folk i work with are well over £1K (they spend more money than me!!!)

At the end of the day this is the money that other refereal sites would normally be paid should you have accessed the site from one of there links but this way, quidco give the money back to you

With quidco you receive money back at a later date (probably about 8 - 12 weeks), so you should get back £95.

Breakdown recovery is added FOC at the moment with the Pru - it states on their website that its for policies that start before 31/10/2007 BUT I believe that this has now been extended to 31/12/2007

Its also a very good idea to search the internet for a company name followed by "code" & "voucher" this should get you some discount codes which you can still apply even if you go through quidco. I've know a lad get a mobile phone for 50p and then sell it on ebay for over a ton
www.hotukdeals.co.uk is the site I use for vouchers.
