Default Engine temp gauge not working ???

Past few days now it's been playing up.

Basically when cruising, the needle doesnt move, i.e doesnt go up. If I cane it a bit then it may rise a little, but then drops back down to nothing.

I also think the cabin heat has dropped, even after a long, if I put it on full heat, it's not that hot.

Any ideas before I take it to the garage?.

I've checked the water and oil and alls good.

    Sounds like a dodgy thermostat.

Would that effect cabin heat though?

Yup, if the thermostat is dodgy then it means the engine never gets to warm up properly, as indicated by the gauge, therefore there isn't sufficient heat to heat the cabin.

Yes agree, sounds like the thermostat. In 30 years of driving, I have only had 1 of these go unservicable on me and that was a real high miler car, but symptoms were exactly as you describe. It was stuck in the open position

Can't believe my local dealer. Told me it's normal for the diesel to run at 70 deg C.

Phoned the other local dealer, taking it in there in Thu.

Burton Brothers is the culprit for anyones future dealings, steer clear.

They phoned me and asked if I could tell them what the other garage found lol, as I was steaming at the time I said NO, I've got better things to do.

    Bunch of *******
