    Default VX Paint

finally the insurance are startin to listen bout the cr ap paintjob that has been done on my car...

got a flame red vec.. Q) what technique do vx apply to spray this particular colour at the factory??

the garage that have repaired it use base coat and laquer whereas vx flame red is done differently I am led to believe.. any ideas on the way both have been done..ie by vx and then by the repair company?..

cheers for a speedy response guys...

Maybe try ringing VX customer care or a main dealer that does body repairs ?

any bodyshop these days HAS to use waterbased base coat, followed with a 2pack clearcoat to layer...

If the match is poor then it's down to how the base has been tinted..if the finish is poor then it's down to how the paint has been applied or the underlying prep on the panels/colour of primer etc..thou if they've used enough base then the primer colour shouldn't bleed through..

Whats the problem Dwabo?..even if your's has oxidised ) gone slightly pink) they should be able to tint it to match..

it just sounds like a cr#p bodyshop trying to feed you a line matey..

well the management company have basically closed my claim and said tough thats all they can do... I have complained to my insurer and they wernt aware of all the problems i have been having with engineers reports and the car going backwards and forwards to the repair company for all the problems to be rectified...they are now fully aware and on my side now..
basically the car has been resprayed on 1 side and bonnet but using base and laquer and now the other side is completely a different colour and shade due to the laquer being applied...

what is the vx standard paints system on flame red is it just solid paint with no laquer?

nope, they just needed to use a different tint to get it looking the same, or to have compounded the car to bring up the original paint to match..

if the have got the tint formulation wrong then the base will be the wrong shade.. the lacquer is totally clear, so when applied has no effect on the final shading...the laquer is only there to seal in the waterbased base coat which is totally flat when applied, and to bring up the shine.. more laquer=deeper shine..

if it's a different colour to the car, then the numpties just mixed up 'any old flame red' and sploshed it on..rather than taking a testcard over to the car and comparing it against the old paint..even the colourchip cards that mixing systems have will give you a formulation that will accuratly match faded or off coloured standard paints..

It sounds like the bodyshop have co#ked this one right up..it's got nothing to do with the original paint, or the way in which the laquer is applied.. they're just coming out with a load of old pony....

they apply it in the same manner as it's being repaired in..clear over base...

any refinisher worth their name can match it in invisibly...for evidence you just look at our cars and try and spot the repairs..
