    Default Preheating

This may be a stupid question but This is the first diesel I have had so I'm curious.

Now that the cold weather is coming do I need to wait for the glowplug light to go out before starting the engine?? I haven't done it in the past but the light has only flicked on for a second but this morning it was on a little longer. The temp at 2.30am this morning was 2.5 degrees.

Always a good idea to let the glow plug wake up the cylinders first on a cold and frosty morning..... and let them get ready for a kicking... rise and shine baby

I always let mine go out before firing up

You should wait for the glowplug light to go out, but my 3.0 still starts if you don't, it just runs a bit lumpily.

Or you could get up later!

WAIT until the light goes out. It will aid starting and the engine will fire quicker, putting less wear on the rotating electrics. Also will put less strain on the engine after initial firing, as the engine will run smoother quicker.

Thats very interesting as i noticed that for the first time this morning as it was 1 degree up here when i was leaving the house at 5am!! Just to add to this someone also told me a while ago not to start my car and leave it running for 10 mins just to heat it up in the morning as it could do damage to it is this correct or alot of rubbish??
