Cleaning EGR Valve?
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my 2003 2.0 diesel and the EML lights up every now and again.
I have had it tech II'd and have been told that the problem lies with the EGR valve.
I have read somewhere that you can remove and clean the EGR valve
Does anyone have any experience of this?
Alternativly does anyone have a good EGR valve for sale to fit a 2003 2.0LS Diesel?

Yep, Done it.
Remove the ecotec black plastic panel.
Look down the front of the engine, you'll see the EGR valve, it's held in with two torx bolts, it has two pies coming from it. Undo the bolts and withdraw the valve.
Spray liberally with carb cleaner and allow to dry in the air. Do not replace it immediately, or it won't dry properly and it'll pop and bang like Del boys van!
When it is dry, replace it and start the car as normal. Should work OK, but, if it's knackered, cleaning aone won't repair it!
Good luck!!

Hi, sorry for the resurrection..
I've been suffering limp home mode and would like to first try cleaning this valve on my y22dtr. I've removed the manifold and located the EGR valve - the two torx bolts come out nice and easy but the valve itself is stuck and wont budge!
Any ideas how I can lever this thing off?

Have a look at fitting a blanking plate. I got mine off eBay for less than a £5. I have yet to fit it but the reviews are great.

Most limp modes on this age of car are vacuum hose related. Mine did the same as yours and it was a 2" piece of rubber tube which had split. Replaced it with silicone tubing from Internet.

Cool, thanks for he replies. I've got the hose now and will try that thanks!- http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...otos-included)
I did manage to get the EGR valve off eventually, i needed a lot of wd40 to soak in and then I twisted it back and forth little by little until it eventually started to budge - took about 10 minutes. Also cleaned up the manifold and also the boost sensor.
Cheers!

To lubricate or not?
When dealing with a sticking Egr valve on a 2 litre diesel should I lubricate it, once it is free?

no the egr puts the unburned particals back into the engine that will eventually cling to the lubricant and turn into a really tar like material called soot.. this turn is very sticky and will eventually clog up the intake and the egr... best thing to do is keep it as clean as possible. if you are talking about it being really hard to get off, that is just the unburned particals that fill up every nook and cranny... but with some patience and some lubrication you can get it out fast enough...
unless you've got a 2.2dti... you can than choose to block the egr completely and have it mapped out, unfortunately the 2.0 dti isn't a tuners favourite as it can only be bench mapped, has something to do with the type of the protection on the ecu (PSG16) the 2.2dti has a more common ecu type that can be mapped utilising the OBD2 port. but you can partially block the egr... the restrictor plate cost little to nothing if bought of ebay.. i think the last time i looked it was only 3 pounds including postage. this will limit the amount of unburned particals being reintroduced hugely but doesn't block the working of the egr so if you don't want to remap (goes for both 2.0 and 2.2 dti) than the egr restrictor plate is an option...

More fool me.
Cleaned my EGR, properly the second time. Did not notice that there are two closing plates for the valve in the housing on the single shaft. Huggins only cleaned one properly. Re-cleaned with carb cleaner much more carefully, on attempt two. Hope it helps someone.
