    Default Heater Fan Problems

    Hi all

Itís come round to MOT time again and Iím doing all the jobs Iíve put off! Basically Iím stuck! Iíve read some previous posts but they donít help.

My heater fan works on no. 4 and windscreen blow only, This is the third time it has happened, previously I have paid a main dealer to fix it @ £100+ and they have said that they have fitted a new rheostat. So how difficult can it be Ďhahaí he says, got the part (9180020) £21.15 + Vat Ė sonic screwdriver in hand I set to work BUT!!!!! Where the bl..dy hell do I fit it?

    Any suggestions (clean ones please)

While Iím on can anyone tell me what each of the main switches are for, Iíve got five blanks each of which are pre wired? i.e. with female strip connectors of differing colours

    I have a 4 door saloon on a 52 plate

    Kel
    ďitís nicer with a bootĒ

As its a rheostat I would say that it would fit within the heater control panel - looks like it may have to come apart (the back clips on by the look of it - you can see the top three clips in your first picture).

I have stripped it down and it's a simple 4 staggered connection but even if I bypass the mechanisium the fan still will not work on no.s 1, 2 and 3

Here you go mate, its a common problem.

"Complaint: Blower motor is running only in high speed, is without function or running when ignition is switched off.
Cause: Condensation water from blower motor accumulates at bottom of blower motor housing ( rust formation etc. ). Resistor is damaged.
Production: As of VIN W0L0ZCF3561069032 (13.01.2006) improved parts have been introduced in produktion.

    Remedy:
In case of customer complaint check resistor and blower motor for water marks or rust. Drill a 4 mm hole at the lowest point of the blower motor housing (brush area) when the blower motor is removed."

Check post 22 has all the info needed.

Just fitted the reostat to my wifes Yaris. It was located on the fan housing and seems to sit in the air flow from/to the fan. I only found it by looking for something the same shape as the bit I had in my hand.

    Worked on all speeds afterwards.

Loaded ok for me. Unless it's because of the recent site changes and you don't have the correct privileges yet?

is there a difference between models with or without climate control? ive got the same part failure problem on my 53 plate signum, but my rheostat is a piece of cast metal with electrical connectors on it.

finding one (outside of vx quoting £175 for the part!) is like finding hens teeth...
