    Default Insurance oddball i think?

    Ok
Insurance is due on 25th of october, been doing a few online qoutes and prices vary from £550 to £1200. I am probably going to go with Marks and Spencer as they have a low excess and a few other nice things included.
    BUT
someone reversed in to me and drove off in july, my astra was repaired and i had to pay the excess, now my current insurers still havent paid me my excess back as the other driver appears to have no insurance however i did get the car reg and the police involved (its obviously going to take some time to sort)
NOW recieve a premium off bell today for £1389 for the year clearly i am not going to insure with them for that price and on top of that they have a huge younger driver excess.
SO can i go insure with someone else but still eventually get my £575 excess back off Bell in the coming months?

    Cheers for any ideas

You might not get the excess back as there is no one to claim off if he was not insured, you could well have to stand the loss, perhaps you could take the driver of the uninsured car to the small claims court to get your excess back, might be worth having another word with the insurance company.

Phone your local court and ask them about details about claiming form the small claims court, they should be able to send you an information pack, you might be able to claim for all the damage depending on the total cost. if you do go down the small claims court route, tell your insurance company that you are doing this.

I agree but the other insurance company see you as having made a claim, as it has not been settled fully. I wonder if the insurance company will not bother to get the claim sorted as she was not insured, and leave the loss to you, might be worth asking your present insurance company what they are going to do and what they mean by "debt collectors" will they get them on the case so to speak or will they leave that to you, I would clarify that with them, you will know where you stand with the insurance company.
