Default Illegal Parking equals no insurance?

I was told earlier that if you park with two wheels on the kerb, you are not insured as obviously it's not strictly legal to park in this manner.

Friend of a friend wasn't paid out after being hit by an un-insured driver, just because of this.

    Any thoughts? Truth or myth?

Sounds like a complete myth to me. Is every car that slightly overlaps a parking bay on a road not going to be insured if some idiot hits them? - I don't think so.

Can't see it either. There must have been more to the story.

It must be more to it than just having two wheels on the kerb - as you said he was hit by an uninsured driver then they would look more in to it. More likely he was parked somewhere he shouldn't have been.

Even if you're illegally parked in completely the 'wrong' place, surely that wouldn't invalidate insurance? Can't see how the ins companies could get away with that.

Surely if you were parked in a 'dangerous' or an obstructive manner on the public highway then the insurer could try and make something of that.

Interesting! What if you parked across 2 lanes of a motorway? Would you still be insured if someone hit you?
Obviously you would be prosecutable but still insured?

what happens if you live in a narrow street and the only way to keep access is for the residents to park half on the kerb?
would it be a case of "no, i will park properly, and to hell with 57 as its on fire and the fire engine cant get up the street, oh well, at least i am insured, i hope they are".
