Default Is the Sat Nav worth it?

I'm planning to buy a new shape Vectra and can see there are some with Sat Nav and some without.

I can't seem to find any reviews of the Sat Nav in the Vectra so thought I'd post here. Are there any reviews of the sat nav kicking about?

Is it really worth going for a Vectra with sat nav? After all, I could buy a tom tom (or other) which i can then transfer from car to car (e.g. hire car if mine is being serviced etc).

    Thanks in advance!

    Mark.

it looks neater with the in built nav... but as you say a tom tom or something would be cheaper and can be removed to put in a different car.. mine came with in built nav but was a few months old when i got it.. go for the colour nav option too

Do what I did.... have both !!

The in car Sat Nav doesnt have a fancy 3d view of the road ahead like the tom tom... and it doesnt do Post Code searches...

But I still only ever use the Sat Nav in the car because its so much more convenient.... I hate wiring in the Tom Tom, battery packs up on the return journey.... sucker marks on the windscreen..... thieves waiting to break in for it !!

But... when I go 'continental' I always take my Tom Tom as a backup !!

The Built in sat nav does do postcode search apparently, Ive not tried it but there is a thread here http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=32250
that explains how to do it..

The 3d tomtom view is just ace.. So much better than the overhead view from the built in..

Sat nav is ok but if you've previoulsy had a tomtom and you are used to speed cameras etc like i was then you may want to buy a speed camera locator, something like the Snooper S4 or the pogo alert..

The incar sat nav does its job with no problems, although its not as good as a tom tom for example. However your cars not going to be broken into for the incar built in one
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

One BIG advantage over a "mobile" SatNav is the Dynamic ability, it can change the route you are going on if there are Accidents/Hold Ups etc.

The Screen is also larger, and shows split, Arrow & Map, and a very nicely detailed arrow outlining EXACTLY which exit to take at roundabouts.

I like it, I have a "Mobile" unit for my van, but much prefer the built in car version, OK more expensive, but a lot more usable witht he dynamic ability.

Pete, it does 5 digit searching , had a play today , its still not as good as tomtom full 7 digit post code but its 90% quicker than typing all the road name in,

Re the speed camera warning, one of my suppliers is just about to become the UK distributor for "Alert G200 GPS" life time free updates, voice and visual notification and GPS based, it should be about £100 all in and very small, if your still up for the Pogo Alert we have 10% discount from Vauxhall-accessories.com making it £225 check with Daz on stock levels !

    Cheers mark
