    Default door "cracking"

Last few weeks I've noticed the drivers door makes a horrible cracking noise when I open it. It seems to come from the metal strap/stop that prevents you opening the door too far (sorry don't know what it is called).

I've tried lubricating it (where it goes into the endge of the door) and it goes quiet for a day or two and then comes back.

I guess I'll have to get it replaced. Is it a common problem? and is it easy to change? Looking at it there seems to be some nylon rollers inside the door.

    cheers

Think you are talking about the "check strap" Sounds like a new one is required if lube didn't work. Shouldn't be too expensive if not under warranty.

Thanks guys. I think I've got some copper grease somewhere in the garage. I'll try that first.

I had this sort of noise on an omega and one day the check strap pulled out of the door!,have a look at the door to see if it's flexing as you open and close it just to be safe.

I haven't look edat the Vectra to see what the stay looks like - but we have a galaxy and if I recall that made this noise - we found that the bolts holding it into the door were loose and the cracking noise was the threads slipping through the bolt holes in the door.

    Cheers

Took car in on Saturday (suspension crunching over bumps - another long story!)

Anyway while it was in I pointed this door strap issue out & they said no problem it will have just worked loose & we'll tighten it up. Turns out it was already tight, but is worn out ! car is just over 2 years old & 27,000 miles!

At least its being done under warranty.

The copper grease didn't work, although it was a little quieter

Mine cracks all the time, much to my annoyance. Out of warranty, and the part was quite expensive as far as I can remember - £45+ i think. Any souces of cheaper parts?
