    Default Aaarrrrgh!

i bought some 302mm calipers, disks & pads to put on my veccy so i actually got round to it and had them put on first thing this morning before going to work at 11. The lad who put them on just over an hour & half. So i drive to work thinking 'cool, i know have brakes' (which is nice) and have no problems all day
    EXCEPT
now i finish work at 5 and reverse the car out of my driving space.....EEEERRRGHHHHHHHHHHHH is all i can hear from the front of the car. so i pull forward to go on the a1 and i mean the screeching is loud and i mean LOUD. everyone is staring at me. so im panicing a bit but i will try to get home (about 10 miles).
the screaming from the brakes is getting louder so i pull over to see if the brakes are seized. nope looks fine. so set off again with this almighty noise, which is now so bad i have to take the back roads to get back to the lads house who put them on earlier. so we take the front wheels off. is the calipers seized. NO. put more copperslip on. still the same.
try different pads. NO. take calipers apart and re grease / clean everything. NO
its getting dark now and im getting worried. tell the missus to bring the old calipers etc to put back on. im trying to work this out so i turn the brake disc on the front wheel without the caliper on and i can hear this awful grinding. Strange, there is nothing touching the disc surely......except when i stick my head underneath there is the metal plate protecting the area around the ball joint which is now rubbing hard against the bigger brake disc. bend ' em back a bit with pliers and thats it. noise gone!
i cant believe we forgot about that. two and half hours work for a 2 min fix.........
i know there is a moral to this story but i cant think what the hell it is!

PS my head now hits the windscreen, brakes 110% better
DONT LAUGH AT ME DUNCAN ha ha ha ha

At least you got there in the end. I knew my old brakes were fine so I was reading it wondering what the problem could be!! - then I got to the end!!
