    Default dilemma....

I am meant to be moving in with my girlfriend in a week or so. We've been going out for about 9 months now and things are going really really well apart from one thing...her cat!

I must confess i am not a big cat fan (i had issues when one attacked me when a kid) but i have made a big effort when i have stayed at hersand even looked after the cat when she was on holiday. Over the last few months however i have been getting more and more i guess wound up as the cat has been becoming more and more of a pain in the backside. We have decided to keep the cat out of the bedroom as it was just being a pest and we werent sleeping and its got used to that and stopped scratching at the door as and letting her out at night.

Anyway i'm waffling. The cat has taken to running away and hiding when i am in myself but is fine when karen is in but today it came in when i got home and i fed it before it suddenly turned nasty. It was rubbing against me and purring then suddenly took a swipe and ran away. Ok i thought until i went through to the fridge. It had junped on top of a cupboard and started hissing and swiping at my head when i opend the door it was going nuts.

I honestly dont know what i have done as i would never hurt the cat or any animal.

I think something has scared her outside and karen has said she would get rid of the cat to her folks but she's had it for 13 years and i wouldnt let her do that.

My dilemma is i dont know if i can move in. I just dont feel comfortable with the cat around when its being weird like that but i dont want things to go wrong with me and karen. Sorry for babbling on but i just need to get it all off my chest.

Take it from me, as a total cat person..that it will settle down eventually Graeme.. it's just displaying it's classic 'threatened' behaviour..It's had Karen to it's own for some time, so when you appear it's only natural to have it's nose put out...Cats also know if folks don't like them/cats in general..and the do play up on it...

The cats just going to have to accept you mate..but i totally agree that karen shouldn't have to get 'rid' of it...but it shows how much she wants it to work with you..

As a freind.. give it a go....the cat will come round eventually..

Couldnt agree more with this. Cat's are very intelligent animals, and know exactly what they are up to when it comes to stitching non cat lovers up!

In time it will warm to you, and if it doesnt, resort to Bainie's suggestion!
