Knocking noise? Any ideas

When driving very slowly such as through traffic jams or when just sitting idle i get a knocking noise, not sure if its coming from front or back though. Is this normal does anyone else have this problem or should i be getting it looked at.

if its from the front its probably your radiator mount bushes. i had mine done under warranty and i think its a common fault

I too have a knocking/cracking noise coming from my car, it happens at all different times and speeds. I had this on my last Sri too so I know exactly what causes my noise. Its generated from the suspension, movement between the springs and their seats. Vx do have a fix for this. They fit rubber tube liners to the last few coils of the springs and it sorts it out. I have notified my local Vx and the have asked me to bring the car in to have the fix carried out. This fault is also listed on the Vx TIS disk under a Technical bulletin.

I have been told that Vx reckon that this problem only exists north of the boarder here in Scotland, so there is a very good chance that this is what is wrong with yours too.

Afraid not Graham, its country wide. Its an extremely common problem and something they had still not fixed on 05 cars despite knowing about it for 3 years. Hopefully they did something at the start of the facelifts.

Does the same FR cover the rear too or just the front, as I have a cracking noise coming from the rear and the symptoms are virtually identical to what graham described.

Noise at the rear, are you sure its a suspension kind of sound? the reason being that another common fault is a missing spot weld between the inner and outer frames of the shell. The two peices then bangs and knock. The fix is a dealer applied rivet to the c plillar. Again there should be a FR sheet for this.

I thought it a bit strange that this suspension fault could only exist here in Scotland.

Unfortuneately they have not sorted it out on the facelift, as it is the facelift Signum which I have and the noise is still being generated. I will soon be taking mine in to get it sorted and I am confident that the fix will last as it lasted well over two and a half years on my Sri Vectra C.
