    Default Additives

We have a 52 1.8ls mainly used for short journeys school runs etc, I have seen and purchased a coupleof products by "Greased Lightning" and would like some opinions from you guys.

    1) Fuel Additive, this is a concentrated 12000 mile fuel treatment, we are going to Devon for the half term holidays, would the car benefit from a bottle of this before we go?, has anyone else tried this product?.

    2) Engine Treatment, this again is a 12000 mile treatment, it is a PTFE treatment, as our car is mainly used for very short journeys would this be a benefit?, i do use Vx 5-30 synthetic oil in the car, again has anyone else used this product.

I was going to try them out in my aging Corsa B first but any opinions would be welcome.

IMO, you really can't beat getting the engine warmed up on long journeys.

I don't subscribe to additives either fuel or oil.

Going to Devon would probably do your engine far more good than any additive could ever do.

5th gear did a test on fuel additives last week, proper tests in a lab

they all robbed 2% of the engines performance, if your gonna add anything then a drop of redex will clean your injectors but otherwise just use standard fuel

Yeah, I wouldn't bother with additives. All independant tests on additives I've seen/read about lately just demonstrate their ineffectiveness. Surprised me, because I could have sworn the diesel treatment I used was really good.
Some of them claim to help the fuel pump, etc. etc. but it can never be proven.

Personally, I steer well clear of them.

Ste is right, nothing beats a good old blowout. Or if it's a diesel get Nutron to tune it up

Cheers for the advice guys, the fuel additive is more of a cleaning product i think than a fuel additive, it says it will clean injectors etc and improve mpg. I will try the engine treatment in my corsa.
