Question Soggy signum - advice needed

    Hi all,

Noob on this forum so hoping someone can help me out.

Got a 56 signum 1.9 150 and stuck one of the cheap german chips on to pep it up a bit. The other big problem is the handling - it is crap! Maybe been spoiled for the last 8 years with a BMW 5 & 3 sport, A3 sport and then A6 - but either way the signum is shocking.

I've seen the general advice about shocks/springs, but hoping for another signum owner to give me their experience/advice

    Thanks in advance

Being an Elegance it has the normal i.e non-sports suspension - same as I had on my Elite. It's meant for comfort cruising on a motorway, not for giving it some on the twisties where it feels somewhat confidence uninspiring!!!

Solution is to stick on some better suspension. I stuck on the Irmscher kit and boy what a difference!

Duncan - thanks. Appreciate the reply.

It's actually a design, but I guess same applies! What kind of price for the irmscher?

    TIA

Ah right - I was going according to your profile!

If it's a Design then it already has uprated and lowered (-20mm) suspension so surprised that it feels 'soggy'. It's not as stiff as the Irmscher suspension but it's a massive difference to the Elegance/Elite suspension.

As for price, you're looking around £550 for the whole kit plus fitting extra - budget on around £200 for a dealer to do it. You may find that sticking on some -30mm lowering springs gets it to how you want as the dampers are already uprated - although not as much as the Irmscher ones.

Ignore my stupidity - it is an elegance. Need to lay off the sauce on a school night I reckon.

    Cheers for the advice

    lol

In that case the Irmscher, or Koni Pro kit or Eibach springs and Bilstein dampers will make a huuuge difference to your handling.

I was going to say! The last thing you'd call the design set up on the Signum is 'soggy'!! I think mine rides and handles better than the SRi Vectra I had previously!

    Again - thanks Duncan/all.

Will buy the eibach springs for a start I reckon - seen the reviews on europerformance.co.uk so they sound good - worth £150 of my cash!

One final question - would I need to get the geometry sorted after fitting. Saw this mentioned on another thread in the forum, but that seemed to be when fitting springs and shocks.

If you can get the dampers as well you'll have a much better set up. The sports springs on the Elegance dampers while an improvement, still won't be the best combination. You'll be making the dampers work much harder and they'll wear out sooner - you're also likely to get a 'double bounce' due to the dampers not being stiffer and matched to the springs.

As for geometry - I think it's only when you change the dampers for shorter sports ones, but I'm not 100% TBH.

Paul, I agree with you and the handling on the Elegance, it is poor, handles like a barge!
I am going for Eibach springs and Billys.
Looking for a 40mm drop as the Elegance does seem a lot higher than any other spec.
