    confused service light help for a newbie owner

    Hi all just purchased my first vectra a 150 cdti energy 54 (sept 04)reg but I cannot get my service light to come on at all even when I press the trip reset counter with the ignition off to check the amount of time left till the next service as the hand book says. has the garage some how managed to turn this function of as I have not yet seen the famous oil can and spanner or is it just down to the model I have. Other than that very happy with the way the car motors along didnt expect it to be so quick

    Cheers all

    Ade

    This function is only available if you have the car set to "ECOService-Flex" intervals. Sounds like your car is set to fixed service intervals. Details of the correct interval can be found on Vauxhall's Website

    Not sure if the INSP message appears in the odometer when it's time for a service. It does in my 2006 Elite, but can't remember if it did in my previous 2004 Elegance.

    Yes it should do. Most dealers turn flex off so they see you every year
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    As previously mentioned, by the sounds of it your car isn't on a "ECOService-Flex" service interval - it's on a fixed period service interval of 10,000 miles / 1 yr (whichever comes soonest). You can't just "have it turned on". You have to make sure that long life oil has been used, and only use the exact same oil for topping up purposes. Using any other oil for topping up compromises the "ECOService-Flex" programme.

    Anyway, IIRC, Vauxhall dropped the ECOService-Flex anyway in favour of a fixed term service interval.

    Up to you if you don't want your car serviced and oil changed for approx 2 years / 15,000 miles (Vauxhall's recommendation); but a lot can go wrong in 2 years / 15,000 miles.

    In my personal opinion you'd be far better off having it done annually / every 10,000 miles (which is Vauxhall's recommendation for fixed term servicing)

    I agree 100% that 15-20k is too long but the 10k interval is only for the DPF fitted models. Pretty sure the others are longer...... I'm not 100% on that though

    Edit:

    2002 Diesel ^ 1 Years / 20,000 Miles 2 Years / 30,000 Miles * -
    2002 1.9CDTi 1 Years / 10,000 Miles 2 Years / 15,000 Miles * -
    * Depending on service indicator
    ^ except 1.9CDTi with Diesel Particulate Filter
    Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    I think you maybe right my last car was a lowly mondeo 1.8 td s reg I had it for five years uptill last week I had it serviced once or twice a year by a friend of mine who is a good mechanic and the car never broke down or failed an mot in its 194000 miles uptil last week when the cambelt snapped but he did tell me six months ago it wanted changing. His moto is if it aint broke dont try and fix it, but now its well and truly broke, hes now looking through my manuals to my 1.9cdti vectra energy to see if we can keep this one going for as long providing I listen to him I think it will.
