    Default 25 and out.....

Thats right. I just left the Army after 25 years and started a new job Well to be honest I don't leave until March next year but got a job offer doing what I was doing in the Army Air Corps but for a civvi company, still working for the Air Corps. That was too good an offer to pass up especially as the Army still pay me till March too.

I have had a great time, even the crap times were great when you look back on them, met some fantastic people and have been involved in all this countries conflicts since the Falklands War. Even when I look back on them I had some good times, you certainly start to respect life and the things you have and take for granted when you are getting shot at and bombed on a regular basis.

I joined as a boy soldier and reached the rank of WO1 RSM and am now leaving as a Captain after achieving a Queens commission in 2002.

Any way enough of that and I must now get on with my second career and sort out a house as I have to move from North Yorkshire down to Wiltshire. I will be on here as often as I can and try and get along to some of the meets for this region.

I have the utmost respect for you mate. Fighting for our country for so long. Glad you had some great times, And glad to see you are moving into a position you are going to be also happy in.

I am not at all saying this to you. Everybody is entitled to say what they like. I know most Military people use it.

Sorry but i have got to say this. I find the phrase's "Civvie" street or "civvies" etc. down right terrible. I don't know why but i just don't like it.

I'm ex service as well matey. I only served 12 years, but still noticed the difference in civvie life almost straight away.

It still surprises me how people speak to each other in 'civvie street' (and I left in 2002). The respect isn't automatically there.

Anyway 'good on yer' for getting two wage packets. From memory I think I had about 4 months off paid, but I was doing resettlement courses.
