    Default Microsoft Excel Formula Problem

I'm having difficulty working out a formula for a spreadsheet used at work and wondered if any of you guys had any good tips as to where I could get some help.

I was going to attach a basic sample of the spreadsheet but it doesn't seem to want to upload.

    Cheers

What kind of formula are you putting in ? Is it one one sheet or a cumulative over more ?

The forum only allows certain file formats to be uploaded - Excel not being one of them. If you can describe the formula you're after - we can maybe help.

If it's easier to see the spreadsheet to work it out, then e-mail it to me - I'm fairly competent in Excel so may be able to help.

It's only on one sheet. I'll try to describe what I'm doing:

I am an Accountant and each department in my work is made up of 5 or six people. My department has a spreadsheet which summarises our client's tax returns which we have to complete.

Columns A & B deals with client information, column C is the staff member responsible for the tax return, Colums D - F are non important stuff, column G shows the date when the Return is sent to the Inland Revenue. Column H tells you if the Return is complete by way of an IF formula (basically if there is a date in Column G then it marks that return as being complete).

At the bottom of the spreadsheet there are the following summaries:

Total Returns - A simple row counting formula.
Total returns per person - Countif formula picking out individual names from the column C.

What I need to do now is to show below each persons total returns is how many they have actaully completed but I'm stuck.

    Sorry to bore you all.

    Cheers
    John

That's what I was about to suggest

It sounds like one of those things that is easier to suss when you see it in front of you! I'm happy to have a peek at it as well, but Tim sounds like he may be a bit more clued up than me on Excel.

    Actually thinking about it..

If you can add another column in I it is fairly easy

    in I do a simple formula of Column c & column G =c2&g2

In the summary at the bottom do another countif forumla based on column I. It should be countif, range would be column I, and criteria will be the name of person and "yes" ( or what ever result you get in column H if completed).. eg. =COUNTIF(columnI,(name & "yes")

HTH. If it doesn't please feel free to email me or speak over hotmail etc.

    Tim.
