confused Temp Gauge & Seat Belt Warning

Last weekend I was driving back from Cambidge motorway speeds when I noticed that my temperature gauge had dipped from the usual 90c to around 75c. It stayed around 75c until I'd pulled off the motorway and my speed had reduced to around 30mph when the temperature went up to 90c again. Since then the temp gauge has had a mind of it's own, the faster I go the lower the temperature gauge reads. I booked it in at the local dealer to have a look, my seatbelt warning light has also stopped working (if passanger or driver are not wearing their seatbelt) so I asked them if they would have a look at that too. When I went to pick up the car they said that they could find nothing wrong with the temp gauge and if the temperature reading was going down that wasn't a problem only if it went up and that my car is not fitted with any kind of seatbelt warning and if it was there in the past I was lucky because it shouldn't have been I drive an 06 1.8sri.

First question would driving speed or driving style affect the temperature gauge in this way, I've had the car six months now and this has only just started to happen.

Second question is I thought that all cars were fitted with a seatbelt warnings as a safety feature, please could somebody confirm this is the case with the 1.8sri before I go back to the dealer.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Thats normal regarding the gauge i think, as the faster you go the more air is forced through the radiator which cools the coolant. Dont forget the air is now more dense and cooler too

That makes sense although don't you think a 20c drop in temperature is a bit excessive? Have you noticed if yours drops as much as this?

Thanks for the reply would appear to be normal then although this has only just started to happen, maybe the temp gauge wasn't working properly in the past then.

Mine does the same too (also a 1.8) especially now at this time of year when the air is cool, especially at motorway speeds.

Thanks Simac would appear to be normal then, perhaps you can help with my second question then as you have also got a 1.8, has your car got a seatbelt warning alarm (if you or your front seat passenger don't fasten your seatbelts) does the car give a warning tone and does a light appear on th dash?

I've had a look in the manual that comes with car as mine used to bleep if you didn't wear the seatbelt and it says that the seat belt warning light will come on and if the seat belt is not fastened after 4 secs it will stay on until the seatbelt is fastened and mine used to bleep I guess it's saftey to make you fasten your seatbelt. As I've mentioned earlier my used to bleep but has now stopped I'm concerned now because there may be a fault and I think that seatbelt and airbags etc are a linked. I'd like peace of mind that if I have a crash I'd like to know that everything is working as it should.

Mine has it, if I go above about 20MPH it beeps and flashes until the driver/passenger put the belt on. Below that speed it just flashes the light on the dash.

It could be something which has been dropped from the later SRI's ? (mines an 03 plate).
