Apply to Tesco mate, I wouldnt think taxi's are an easy way to make a living. Look at the bigger retailers - always needing hardworking managers.

I have use 3 vec's as a taxi, the first a vec b 2.0 cdx had no probs with it bought it with 66k on the clock then slod it with 136k. Then had a vec b 150 SRi Thrust bearing went on that so replaced it & fitted new clutch at the same time. The only other thing that went wrong was the exhaust fell apart so put a stainless on. After that bough my Vec C 2.0dti. only used it as a taxi for 2-3 months with not a glitch. All the above had the usual wear & tear.... new brakes tyres etc on the whole a great workhorse

I've heard that the gearboxes have needed replaced on 3 '03' plate Vecs every 20k miles. Saying that, i would need to wait another 5 years before i could get a licence!!

    Someone hailing me?

Seriously though, as my nick says I've had lots of experience of Vx cars in the old thrash for cash game.

Start with the Vectra eh? B model, bought a 98 model 2.0 DTi, had it 2.5 yrs, did 65k in it, cost me 1-Mass Air Meter-£125 and 1-Drivebelt-£8 iirc, so all in all a very good car cost wise, when I got rid of there was a suspected bearing in the box on it's way out and the rear bushes were shot, even so by cab standards that's a good show tbh, sold at 92k. VV rating 9/10

Then came the Omega B CD 2.2 Auto, loved this car and should never have sold it on tbh, did 43k in it, the throttle body needed cleaning twice and the rear shocks shot out early as well, but hey we all know Vx shocks are **** anyway, flogged her at 65k in 100% condition, Perry's retailed it it was so good still, to quote the salesman "we had it up on the ramps and couldn't find a thing wrong with it so we decided to put it out front* VV rating 9/10

Now for my dearly departed friend the 2.0DTi C, cost nothing cos it was all down to Vx when she went wrong, things that did though, rear link bars twice in 35k, aircon twice regassed, she died at 41k and as far as I could tell she was 100% at that time and other than the bars was another good horse. VV rating 7/10

Local guy runs a fleet of 1.9 CDTi's, he has had dual mass flywheel trouble from most all of his, and at the price to fix it ain't funny when it goes wrong.

If your running a 2.0T or 2.2i expect to see 22mpg on the urban and 28 mixed with 32mpg on motorway journeys, 2.2 direct might be better but I can't say for sure because I've never had one yet.

For a real cab though if the local council doesn't have to strict an age policy you want an Omega 2.2i or DTi, the DTi will return just over 30mpg overall used as a cab.

Beware of Vx auto box though, ime the old ones fitted to Cavalier/Vectra B ans Omega have a life of around 60-90k some do do better but it will defo be slipping by the time 120k comes up and costs £1500 to recon, the new tip box I can't say how good it is for lifespan, my experience of it in a loan car is that it's all good fun using the tip, good off the line, but can get lost deciding which gear to be in at certain speeds, i.e cruising at 60 and it can't decide to be in 5th or 6th.

10k for what, to operate a cab ? up here we dont pay a thing just pass the hackney and 400 roughly for your licence, after that you can go private hire or rank, radio is 130 a week after that what you make is yours minus 10% for accounts and in this oil rich city can make a good living, but can be stressful 12 hrs a day, i only work 5 days
