Default Saab 93 1.9T TID is available to order

Got my copy of Top Gear and was comparing car stats to see which ones I can beat and there it was. I looked on the internet and it says 180PS with 400NM (294lbft)

I had a drive in a Saab 9-3 Aero 1.9 TTiD last weekend, a very very nice engine.

I can only compared it to my old SRi 1.9 CDTi 150 with the VXR PC re-map.

Although the Saab is 180PS and 294 lb/ft, the way it delivers the power is relentless, on the road it would absolutly destroy my SRi. It is to be honest in a different class to the 150 single turbo.

Max Torque comes in very early, about 1200rpm and you just get that thrust until about 5500rpm. There is no let up.

This engine makes it's Vauxhall debut in the Zafira VXR next summer, but the Vauxhall version will be 190PS and 300lb/ft.

We know that 180+bhp and 300lb/ft is easily done in the 1.9 150, but by the time the car gets on stream with full torque, the twin turbo car will be long gone.

The good thing is though, is apparently a simple re-map will take it to around 220/230bhp and 330+lb/ft with no real effort.

Do you think anyone will come up with a twin turbo conversion for the current engine ?

Now that would be a very nice conversion, I'd rather have something like that than a 1.9cdti frigged to the hilt & coughing out more soot than a '50's london bus

Looking forward to trying one of these. Should be a tad more efficient too, thanks to the small turbo.

5500rpm? Have they raised the limit then? I heard from my remaper that some crazy people in Germany actually had the 1.9CDTI running at 10,000rpm!?! Don't think even I would risk that... not with my car anyway

If they have increased the upper limit, that would suggest a larger turbo, which would definatly make for some stunning torque at top end. I've seen figures of 212, 213, 215 & 225 bhp from four different rolling roads for my 1.9CDTIs, so with a bigger turbo, the sky would be the limit in the TTs.

I can't see them not kicking out an official VXRD based on the diesels they are bringing out next year, only question really is wheather it will be the 1.9 or the bigger diesel they use?

Has anyone found any technical specs on the new engines yet, other than bhp/lbft?
