    Default CDTi turbo oil leak

Right chaps, just been under the car to do an oil change and noticed a film of oil on the under side of the turbo and a droplet about to drip in my eye

Want to know if it's normal for a turbo to blow out a little oil as it is only a light mist of oil or is it signs of the bearings on the way out?

Also took the hose's off the intercooler and there was a slight film just on the inside of the hose's (about as far a my finger could reach)

The throttle body had a fair bit of gunge in it although i expect this on a car showing 50,000 miles

Any thoughts cause i can't decide whether to leave it or pop in to see the stealer since it's still under the Q

    Cheers

nope, not at all normal.. in fact so wrong that we've had 3 new turbo units on our CDTi 150..at first VX just told the dealer to tighten the jubilee clips on the hoses to stop the oil running out... then when it didn't cease we had a new unit...that had a bad acsting and fumed the car out, then spat it's bearing seals out, then unit 3 lasted 200 miles.. now on unit 4...2000 miles and still alive...

take it in and point out that the turbo shouldn't be leaking oil....they may just change the oil feed pipe and banjo's..( known fault) or they may wash it, ask you to come back and see if it still leaks, then replace the turbo unit as a whole..

Oil on the intercooler pipes is normal, oil outside the turbo is not.

they should only ever need changing or checking for serviceability when the turbo is being changed... till then the best thing you can do is change the oil sooner than the 20K that VX recommend to avoid the buildup of carbonised particles..
