Newbie Advice needed please 2.2 Direct with a strange rattle...

Hello,

I have recently become the very happy owner of a 2004 2.2 direct SRi in sapphire black. It has the z22yh engine and has done about 51000 miles with full service history. My problem is that there is a strange metallic like rattling noise coming from what seems to be the timing chain area which is consistent with engine revs (I’m no expert!) and is worse when starting from cold but lessens a bit as the engine warms up. Having read various posts about timing chains snapping I’m now terrified to drive it! My question is: does anyone know if the timing chain/smaller/blocked oil jet issue has been resolved on the z22yh engine and am I panicking unnecessarily? If so, any ideas on what the noise could be?

Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place but I have never posted on a forum in my entire life till I found this site, what a great site it is too

are there any fellow 2.2 direct owners who have had similar problems to me?

This problem was resolved with the 2.2 in the vec C. And as the direct is just an evo of the 2.2 then the jet problem deffo not an issue. Not saying it isnt your chain though but the jet will be the newer larger one.
