    Default Spanner light

Only had the car a week but i noticed a knocking noise yesterday , only did it once near home, when i used the car about 20 mins later the spanner light came on while driving, it now only comes on when i first turn the ignition on and goes out when i start the car.

Earliest for the dealers is Monday, had the car inspected at Kwik Fit and they could see nothing wrong with springs or suspention at all.

My question is would it be safe to drive with the spanner light coming on when you first put the ignition on ?

The manual dosent really say much

    Its a SXI CDTI 120 , 54

    Thanks

It should be ok to drive with the spanner light on as you say. Its only not safe to drive when its flashing all the time. If it comes on and stays on with out flashing then the car is in limp home mode. hth

Had the light on briefly yesterday, when driving, for the first time. Manual says if it comes on briefly and then goes out it is of no consequence. You will know it if it goes into an emergency running programme (limp mode).

When it comes on with the ignition, it's simply a reminder that the ECU has stored fault codes. If the engine successfully starts 25 times (i think) without the same fault reoccurring, it will cancel the fault code by itself and you'll have no more EML.

I didnt know that either, my light came on the other day then a couple of days after and noticed the light stayed on with ignition. Went to dealers and had a new fuel pressure regulator fitted under warranty (13000 miles) and now the light is off with ignition so that makes perfect sense!

I used to work with petrol injection and have been out of it for 2 years and everything is changing lol!
