    Default Soundproofing

Thought i would share my brief findings!

More noise than i'd like in the Vectra, boot seems quite noisy so thought i'd try some foam on the underside of the parcel shelf. Did before and after recordings on my mp3 player, on the same road at same speed. according to my audio software the signal difference is .5db so not a massive difference! Can't say i noticed a big difference myself either, not sure what to try next, maybe under the rear seat bench as a lot of noise seems to come through there as well.

What tyres are you running on?
I found myself kind of noisy my NCT`s....
On the other hand you could try some foam on the front area (dashboard) wich I think is kind of "noisy" too.

I have the NCT's on, only done 13k miles so don't need new ones yet, will definitely try and find quieter tyres when the time comes.

Have thought about dynamat, but not used it before so not sure how good the results with it are. if it's not too expensive i may just try it when i'm bored.

I have soundproofed the boot with 2 layers of felt underlay.I have also removed the two side panels and felted those up and replaced them.It has made quite a difference.I also put sound deadening felt(fireproof) under the bonnet trim.( see here ...
    http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-126-felt.aspx)
I cut it to size using a paper template and then just placed them under the trim and put all the fixing plugs back. All this has made a difference. My next thing is to cut some felt to go under the carpet mats in order to soundproof the floor better. Some one on here has also said about putting nitrogen in the tyres as it help quieten them down.I'll try this at weekend(if i can find anyone that does it.Please,if you know of a national tyre company that does this then post here!).

I first thought it was my Bridgestone tyres that were causing all the noise but after test driving another Vectra with Goodyears on i can confirm that the two cars sounded the same.

I am at a loss as to why there is so much road noise. There is a constant drone that comes from underneath the floor and then the tyre noise thats at a different frequency. My older vectra(r reg) was as quiet as a mouse so this is one thing that annoys me about this one.

So far doing the above mods has reduced the noise by about 15% but i feel it needs more yet to compare with my old veccy.

Videodoctor I know that Costco use N2 for their tyre's. I'm sure if you ask they will fill your tyre's for a small fee.
