    Default Car Repairer

Car was taken into Nationwide this morning to have the bumper repaired. Just got a text message saying the repairs are now under way and that all excess must be paid before release of the car!!!

This was a non-fault accident and i was told my excess of £600 has been waived, i just hope i don't get charged then have to claim it back as there's no way i could afford £600 right now!!!

£600! That's some excess.. just about to get my Freelander repaired and that has an excess of £300... unfortunately a bollard jumped into the passenger door (while the wife was driving!) so we are liable to pay

Needless to say, the excess on the Vec is a total of £50.. just in case.

Don't you normally have to pay it then claim it back?? Hope I'm wrong.

It's probably a standard message they send out - I doubt they'd personalise them

Mine went to nationwide, i had the same text and had to pay my $475 excess before they would give me the car, they said i can claim it back from my insurance as like you it was not my fault, 3 months later im still out of pocket

Good luck but i dont think theyll let you have the car wihout paying

Same here, a while ago now I had to pay the excess in a non-fault claim and had to claim it back from the other party's insurers (which my insurance co did for me)

Its awful, ive aid to my insurance company what have i paid for in the first place if i have to pay again for someone hitting me.

One option which i nearly took, the car wasnt repaired toa high standard so i refused to take it back i was told i could keep the hire car for as long as it took, SO maybe you could say im not paying the excess my insurance company will and keep the hire car until then?

Did you go through your own insurer in the end? If you went through the other party's insurer thay should pay the excess straight to the garage. I had nothing to pay when I picked up mine.
