Default Oil and filter 2.2 Direct

    Hi

Looking for some advice please. My car (2004 Sri) is at 44k miles. It had the 40K (2 year) service carried out at 34K.The car is no longer under Warranty, but I looked at what is included in the 1year (20K) service and to be honest,it looks like 'nothing' loads of checks, air filter and oil&filter.Cost approx £99. I've checked the air filter and it looks fine,so that basically means £99 for oil&filter and 'peace of mind'.I did the brakes a few months ago so they are ok.All fluid levels are fine too. In effect, its £99 for oil & filter Don't really want to pay that so I looked about."National Tyres and Exhausts" do an oil and filter using Castrol 'Edge' oil for around £35,but then charge £10 for removing the plastic cover, but in Halfrauds,5L of 'Edge' is approx £42 anyway. The only doubt I have is do they actually use the oil they say?

Sorry for the 'speel' but just looking for suggestions.I know its probably been covered before but as the oil needs to be synthetic I was looking for suggestions.

    Do it yourself??

Very easy to do, and long life oil and filter for mine (1.8 so could be different filter to yours) is £30 over VX counter. Then you KNOW exactly what has been used.

Don't understand your 'then charge £10 for removing plastic cover'

They charge an additional £10 for removing and refitting the plastic panel under the engine (when fitted). I would consider doing it myself but I wasn't sure if the saving was significant for 'getting dirty' and then having the hassle of dumping the oil.I live in a flat and it is a bit awkward working on the motor

    I see.......

Plastic panel removal and refitting £10?? That's about £2 a minute..

Can you give then a fiver and tell them not to re-fit??

well, the good news is the 2.2 doesn't have a plastic undertray, so result there....

then the filter should be no more than a tenner, and buy the oil from VX for £30 and you're home and dry.. the filter is located front right of the engine beneath the plastic cover with the nut moulded on it...release this before undoing the sump plug to let the oil drain back..

Just put in new plugs NGK PLATINUMS,new fuel filter, engine flush, new oil(Edge because it's bl00dy brilliant!!!) new oil filter,Bled the brakes...Sorted.Used all vx parts from the stealers, and have secured a much better job on my own driveway, for a third of the cost, plus i've still 11k until the next scheduled service,so i'm ignoring the 'Kind' letter just sent to me by the stealers for my second service
