    Default 2.2 Direct Flat Spot

Gave my car a good run out this morning going to work Didn't exceed the limit, but took the car up through the revs.In 3rd around 65mph,the car seemed 'flat'.Not sure why.I've carried out the airbox mod.Any reasons for this or is it just 'normal'

when giving mine some beans on the six speed box i change up from 2nd at 60, so can't say i've noticed a flat spot in 3rd! i do know you really feel the torque peak once over 3500rpm, perhaps thats why it feels dead just before you hit it?

My Signum 2.2 does this around the 3500rpm mark in 3rd gear (auto box). Accelerate hard then at about 3800rpm revs drop a few hundred rpm for a less than a second then power comes on strongly again from about 3500rpm. I think it might be something switching over or opening up (like a second inlet barrel) but I don't know what it is exactly.

Annoying, but it's always done it so it seems like something the ECU is programmed to do, never driven another one so have nothing to compare with.

Strange, how we've all got the same engines, but they seem to have different personalities!!!

JohnMac, fit an aftermarket panel filter,i fitted a BMC in mine, and the flat spot went immediately. At the same time put in fuel treatment,i've been raving about Slick50's latest product on another thread, you'll be suprised how quick the injectors on an unleaded engine can start to foul, then once you've worked a tank of that through,on the next fill up add an octane booster to the fuel.
Oh My...or words to that effect is what will surge forth from your lips, the next time you 'take the car up through the revs'!!!!
The 2.2 is not known for it's 'tuneability' so these little efforts go along way for a suprising difference, and feel of satisfaction.
Also a pleasant side effect is that my mpg increased from 28mpg to 30mpg around town, and 38mpg on the motorway!!! Result!
I've a 5speed box,it used to choke out at 60 in second, not anymore! A little over that to change up if you really want to let the engine go,and 3rd? Well, this is why i love VX's,It's like me old 8v Astra!! LOL,She revs like a banshee and it's not just noise she pulls with it too! I've tourque now where i didn't have it before, admittedly i use fuel treatment every few tanks, but that just keeps her all nice and clean inside the block,so really i'm realising the full potential of what is a cracking and very underated engine! Those who own a direct will know what i'm talking about,it's a very satisfying drive, and when i finally move on to other engines it's one of those i'll always remember fondly!
Oh and no bl00dy DP FLIPPIN F'S EITHER!!!!
