confused getting the sump plug out ????

    Hi,

Does anyone have any tips for getting the sump plug out of mrs zx6r's astra g??

I have now snapped three t40 bits in half trying to remove the damn thing, it just won't budge.

Would an airgun quality bit and a breaker bar be a good idea and would it give any more strength before snapping than a normal cv t40 bit?

Any tips gratefully received as I'm damned if i'm paying for the oil change after buying all the bits!

    Cheers guys
    Nick

Have you tried gently heating up the area around the sump plug? not too hot - remember there is oil in there. If its that bad, supply the bits and get a garage to do it!

cheers mate, i tried to loosen it after a good run so the sump was pretty warm then.

I'm getting pretty sick of this car. Everything I come to do is met with a welded on nut or part of some description

problem is with the torx key's - they are crap. Never have enough leverage , i had the same prob on my V6 . I just used a normal hex key which has a longer handle .

you have to accept that it's goint to need a new sumpnut at worst, buy one in advance, then use the best fitting key you have avaliable and the longest bar, and just gently apply the force.. use an extension tube if you need to.. and it will let go..
