    Default 3.2 V6 Panel filter

Any point changing the panel filter to a K&N panel filter or similar?

    Cheers

In my experience, yes. I bought a panel filter from Courtenay Sport for my 3.2 Elite.

On the original filter, I never managed to get above 30 mpg on dual carriageways / motorways (between 70 and 80mph). Now i can get around 34/35 at the same speeds. Maybe a coincidence but it works for me!

You'll find arguments for and against performance filters. On the upside you might get a very slight increase in power/mpg and a nice throaty sound when you boot it. However, K&N (and probably other performance filters) have larger pores than the standard paper filter, which let through slightly larger bits of dirt so there's the potential risk of damaging your Mass Air Flow sensor - although I don't know of anyone who this has actually happened to.

Also do they really increase the noise? If so how much? I had one in my 2.2 Vectra B and didn't notice any difference but this may be different in the V6.

Agreed, they let more dirt in....if it`s so bad that affects the air sensor or not..well...as you said I don`t think any memebers around had bad experience with them...

K&N is the preffered brand I guess...you can find them on Ebay between 35-45 GPS if I recall right

Is this just the induction kits or do the panel filters do the same?

the panel filters dont really make a louder noise just slightly increase performance!

i have an induction kit and had it on for around 12 months and i do have the loud throaty noise and have never had any problems with dirt or the afm!

For those who say that they have never had an issue with dirt in the engine, take a look at this thread

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34725

It shows Duncans Turbo, before and after refurb. The pitting on the wastegate is very noticable, in a place where it is so hot that you would think these bits of dirt would be burnt away.

Theres no noticable gain in fitting a K&N or the like. Try fitting a clean paper filter and doing the airbox mod instead.

yes i understand that but that was a turbo which is in no way the same as an air filter!!!! the filter is reguarl cleaned where as a turbo cant be!!! plus the filter doesnt get hot as i have air blowing on to when i drive once again a turbo doesnt!!!

and i find there is a noticeable gain not just in sound but it does pull slightly better !!!
