When you declare putting any mods on the car and you pay an extra fee, do you pay it every time you renew your premium?

no, because when you renew your insurance with the new company then you would declare what mods you have done to it..the only time you would pay more/extra is if you have added something extra after the time of renewing..ie new wheels or spoiler..etc

Trouble is T4M at our age the insurance company might ask alot more money for your mods. I never declared new wheels on my 1st car becuase i could'nt afford it. I dont know how the system works but the way i see it is if i did'nt declare it then my insurance company don't have to pay for it should something happen. Performance mods should be declared though

Do you HAVE to declare everything?????

Its not just a case of them paying for the mods if its wrote off but more a case of adding such things as spoilers, skirts and alloys could make them more desirable to a thief and so hence the insurance hike.

The short - and politically correct - answer to that is YES!

With regards to not knowing how they could/would deal with your claim (i.e. wheels) you MAY be lucky enough for them to pay out for the rest of the car/damages in the event of a claim BUT, in this day and age, you are more likely than not to have them refuse any and all part of your claim, which they would be entitled to do (apart from possibly where they have to pay out a third party by law and there is nothing to then stop them coming back to you for recovery of these monies either).

Ignorance is not a defence in the eyes of the insurers. All they have to do is look at the PDI(Pre-Delivery Inspection) from the manufacturer which they have access to.

Funnily enough I had my radio stolen from my Zafira. It was the NCDR1100, CD/Radio Sat Nav. The PDI says it is the CCR600 in my car. I mangaged to get a new one as the suppling dealer confirmed it was a factory fit option, not added later.

As dave says there's a tussle between you doing the moral and politically correct thing, versus the insurer's instinct not to pay out yet maximising its premiums for smallest of reasons.

Be honest and be damned, be dishonest and be damned. Which side if the fence is your conscience or wallet most comfortable?

if in doubt, declare everything, then let the insurance Co tell you if it doesn't worry them or if they have a problem covering anything..

Basically, after the car got hit a few weeks back i put the steelies back on and the repair centre took pictures of the damage. I got a puncture last night and rather than pay for a new tyre i put the alloys back on. The cars going in on Tuesday and i'm hoping nothing gets said about the wheels.....
