Default V6 CDTI (EGR & Throttle Valves)

I have had my Signum V6 CDTI since March 2007 - it was registered in 2006, and when I purchased it, it came from VFM (owned by Vauxhall themselves). It only had 4k on the clock.

Since then, it has broken down on three ocassions. The first time, it actually started and was driveable but had the Energy Management Light on. When I took it to the dealer (Northern Motors in Watford), the light had gone out - they said they had checked but there was nothing wrong.

Within a couple of days it had broken down and the upshot was the EGR valve had to to be replaced. Northern Motors in Watford replaced it. This was in June.

Now, the car is currently with the dealer after breaking down on the Channel Tunnel crossing! What fun! They have just phoned and said that the error code P0638 was found, meaning that the throttle valve had to be replaced.

The car currently has 21k miles on it.

    A couple of questions:

    1. Are the throttle valve and egr valve operationally linked? If so, could it not have been the throttle valve in the first place?
    2. Does a diesel actually have a throttle valve - is it not a rack?
    3. Is the car worth keeping - will this be the end, or like so many others will the turbo, alternator and various other components need replacing in due course?

    Cheers.....

If the parts are replace properly you shouldn;t have any more problems - Touch wood!!!

My CDTi 150 came from VFM (thats Vauxhall Fleet Management), and I had to have the EGR replaced after a few months.... probably just a coincidence!!! I've had no problems with mine for over 6 months (touching wood again) and its all good!

stick with it, the v6 units are really good engines...hopefully you'll be in the clear after these initial hiccups.

My V6 CDTi had a starting problem when I first got it (and I almost got stuck on the Tunnel, too!), but a new version of the engine software seemed to fix it.
Touch wood, after 3 1/2 years and 30,000 miles I've had no more problems.

Not all facelifts are bad!! Also, Ukanalyst (Dave) has got one and as far as I know has not had a single problem. If you dont "mess" with them, they'll be fine

Default Signum V6 CDTI Update: Further Problems

Since my last post regarding the EGR valve and various other problems I have had another few breakdowns!

They have since then updated the ECU software and replaced the fuel rail and sensor. Now they are replacing the injector pump valve, potentially having to replace the entire injector pump.

    Oh what joy!

Has anyone sucesfully returned their vehicle to Vauxhall (GM UK) and got a refund, or has anyone managed to swap their vehicles or get free extended warranties or anything like that?

If they replace the parts then it should all be fine.. there was a problem with some of the 3ltr fuelling parts which had upgrades...Mavericks old signum 3ltr had a new pump etc and it's around the same age as yours...

Mine had a new pump too among other things. I think Maverick found that the HP fuel pump problem was linked to certain chassis numbers
