As you know, myself, Duncan and Plasma (Dean) are off to France in the morning. They landed here earlier on and after a coffee and a bit of banter it was suggested we go and have a little 'spin' in Duncans car to see what the stage 3 was like.
Duncan took us along the A4 out of Reading, giving it little squirts here and there but unfortunately the traffic was a bit sticky, so couldn't demonstrate the full power available.
Until we hit a dual carriageway.
And just to let you know, it's properly fast! Third gear pull is superb. Fourth gear is just phenominal!!
Anyway, we went past Aldermaston to come back into my side of Reading. We drove back up towards Burghfield along a conviniently placed long straight, where once again, we were basically assulted by the pull the car has!
As we got into the village, Duncan asked would I like a little go........
I was a little tentative. It's been raining here most of the day, The car is Duncans pride and joy, it's been given a serious power hike and the owner is sat next to me. Not really the best combination to experience a car.....
So, I pulled out carefully and WOOOOSH!! We were gone! Dean in the back going 'Woaho' and Duncan laughing at me! A few more quiet stretches of road and I now know, once again, I've bought the wrong car!!
First gear, I basically got the car moving. If I had put the foot down in first, a combination of the road and the power would have just spun the power into rubber smoke, Second and the car pulls bluddy hard, Third it's making serious progress, Fourth, the best gear! It's long enough to basically use all the power and it pulls long and hard, well into silly speeds!
At first, I thought it would be a menace in traffic, but when you get used to it, it's perfectly useable. We hit a bit just to make sure!!
So in conclusion; The 'phase 1' stage 3 exhaust sounds amazing. It just amplifies the Turbo nicely, but not obtrusively.
The power. Basically, while I was first driving it, I kept saying 'this is stupidly quick!' Dean in the back thought so too! At least I think it's what he was saying!
As a whole setup, (Stage 3, GSi Brakes, Irmscher suspension) It takes some beating. When the turbo spools, there's a little twitch from the steering, and that's it. Afterwards it just pulls and pulls and pulls!
I'm more than a bit impressed! Thanks D for my little go! It's just ruined my weekend! Somehow chugging along in my 150 Diesel isn't going to be quite the same!!!
